Aubrium vs ChatGPT: which is better for Instagram reel ideas?

ChatGPT writes hooks and scripts on any topic. Aubrium shows which Instagram reels already went viral, with their views. What each does best, and how to use both.

Aubrium ResearchEditorial · Updated

A dog-grooming account in the US, @amybe…, has 7,585 followers. One of its reels opens with "POV: the groomer says 'trust me'" and has 69,110,209 views. That's 9,111 times its follower count, and it sits in Aubrium's library, read on 22 October 2026.

Ask ChatGPT for dog-grooming hooks and it will write you a page of them. Whether it can find you that reel, and tell you how far it went past its account's usual audience, OpenAI's pages don't say. That gap is what this page is about. Words are easy to get now. Knowing which ones already worked is the hard part.

Fair warning: we make Aubrium, so this is our page. We also couldn't read OpenAI's site live on 22 October 2026, because every page refused us. So each ChatGPT fact below comes from the Internet Archive, a library that keeps dated copies of web pages, and each one says when its copy was saved. If you want a tool built only for finding viral reels, we compared ten of them in the best tools to find viral reels. This page is about the one you probably already have open in another tab.

The short answer

Pick ChatGPT if you want help writing hooks, scripts and captions on any topic, fast. It has a free plan, and Plus is $20 a month. Pick Aubrium if you post on Instagram and want to see which reels already went viral for accounts with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, with their real view counts. It starts at $49 a month. You can also use both: Aubrium connects to ChatGPT.

Can ChatGPT tell you which reels went viral?

OpenAI's own pages don't say it can. ChatGPT's web search reads the open web, and its answers can cite their sources.1 But nothing on OpenAI's pages describes a library of reels, a reel's view count, or a way to see which reels beat their creator's usual numbers.

A library can show you that, because it counted. Aubrium tags every post in its library with 23 labels, and the hook type is one of them. So we can count how common each kind of opening is among the reels that went viral, and how far the middle one of each kind travelled.

Hook types on the viral reels in Aubrium's libraryShare of the viral reels in Aubrium's library that carry a hook-type label, and how far the middle reel of each type travelled (its views ÷ its creator's followers). Every reel here already went viral, so none of this is the odds for a new one. Read 22 October 2026.

Curiosity gaps are the most common hook: 17.7% of these reels open with one. POV hooks are rare, at 3.9%, but the middle POV reel reached 33.1 times its creator's followers, the furthest of any type. Relatable hooks came close behind, at 32.4 times. And 19.2% of these viral reels were tagged with no hook at all.

ChatGPT will write you a POV hook if you ask. What OpenAI's pages don't describe is a count like this one, built from the views on real reels. That's the difference between the two. One writes the words. The other shows you what happened when creators your size posted hooks like them.

Where ChatGPT is better

It wins on writing, range and price, and it isn't close.

Writing, fast

Hooks, scripts, captions, rewrites. It drafts them on request and keeps rewriting as you push back. The Free plan lists "Unlimited text chats".3

Almost any topic

Brainstorm a niche, plan a shoot, study or write an email. It also makes images and reads files you upload,5 and it remembers your preferences across chats.4 Aubrium is Instagram only.

A free plan, and Plus at $20

Free has no time limit, and Plus is $20 a month.5, 6 Aubrium's site offers no free plan or trial, and it starts at $49.

The web, with citations

It searches the web on every plan, even signed out, and on its own when a question needs current information. Its answers can cite their sources.1

Where Aubrium is better

It wins on what actually happened: real reels, real views, accounts your size.

Real view counts

Every reel shows its views, likes and comments, set against its creator's followers.7 OpenAI's pages don't mention reel view counts.

Only reels that went viral

A reel gets in only when it reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views.8 The middle one reached 22.3 times its creator's followers.

Accounts your size

Every account has 1,000 to 100,000 followers, and the middle post comes from one with 12,805. Filter by niche, country, format, hook type and more.9

A reel to start from

Make my version turns any viral post into your own reel script or carousel, for 2 Sparks.10 My Rivals follows accounts like yours, checked all month.11

RefundsA full refund within 15 days of your first subscriptionThe Plus help page says you can request one

Aubrium is monthly only, and every plan has every tool.12 Searching, filtering and browsing the library never cost Sparks.13 Sparks pay for the rest: 2 for a script or a carousel, 10 for a topic search, 40 to track a rival for 30 days.12

On ChatGPT, Free and Go may show ads, and Plus and above don't.14 Plus can't be paid yearly,6 and Pro comes in three monthly tiers.15 We've left Go's price out, because the newest OpenAI page we found that gives one is from January.

Which one should you pick?

It comes down to whether you need words or evidence. Often you need both.

Pick ChatGPT if you…

  • Yes: want help writing hooks, scripts and captions, fast
  • Yes: want to start without paying
  • Yes: work on more than Instagram
  • Yes: already know what to post and need the words

Pick Aubrium if you…

  • Yes: post on Instagram
  • Yes: want to see which reels already went viral, with their views
  • Yes: want ideas from accounts with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, in your niche and country
  • Yes: want a script or a carousel made from a reel that took off

Or use both. Aubrium connects to ChatGPT through MCP, a standard way for AI apps to use other tools, so you can reach your viral reels, your saved ideas and your carousels from a chat.16 On Aubrium's side, you sign in with your Aubrium account when ChatGPT asks, and there's nothing else to set up.17 On ChatGPT's side, OpenAI's pricing page, saved 19 October 2026, lists developer mode (beta), where you add your own MCP server, on Plus and Pro, not on Free or Go.3

Questions people ask

Can ChatGPT find viral reels on Instagram?

OpenAI's own pages don't say it can. ChatGPT searches the open web and can cite its sources, but nothing on OpenAI's pages says it can read a reel's view count or tell which reels beat their creator's usual. Aubrium is a library of reels that already did.

Is ChatGPT good for writing reel hooks?

Yes, for drafting. It writes fast, on any topic, and keeps rewriting as you push back. What OpenAI's pages don't describe is a count of which hooks opened reels that went viral.

Is Aubrium better than ChatGPT?

They do different jobs. ChatGPT is better at writing about almost anything, and it has a free plan. Aubrium is better at showing which Instagram reels went viral for accounts with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, with their views.

Can I use Aubrium inside ChatGPT?

Yes. Aubrium's integrations page says you can reach your viral reels, saved ideas and carousels from ChatGPT, after signing in with your Aubrium account. OpenAI's pricing page, saved 19 October 2026, lists developer mode (beta), where you add an MCP server, on Plus and Pro.

Which is cheaper?

ChatGPT. Its Free plan has no time limit, and Plus is $20 a month. Aubrium starts at $49 a month, with no free plan or trial on its site, but it gives a full refund within 15 days of your first subscription.

Do I need both?

Not always. If you already know what to post and want help with the words, ChatGPT is enough. If you want to see what's going viral for accounts like yours before you write, that's what Aubrium is for.

How we did this

We tried to read OpenAI's pages on 22 October 2026. Every one answered 403, which means the server refused us. So each ChatGPT fact here comes from the Internet Archive's saved copy of OpenAI's own page, and each source below gives the day that copy was saved, from 19 September to 19 October 2026. The saved copy of OpenAI's pricing page shows no prices, so the prices come from OpenAI's help pages. We left out ChatGPT Go's price, because the newest OpenAI page we found that gives one is a post from January 2026.

We didn't test ChatGPT for this page. When we say something is not on OpenAI's pages, we mean we read them and didn't find it. ChatGPT may still be able to do it.

We read aubrium.com on 22 October 2026. Aubrium's numbers come from its own library that day, counting the posts members can see. Aubrium makes this page.
