The best tools to find viral Instagram reels in 2026

We paid for two of these, read the other seven line by line, and compared all ten on whose reels they actually show you. Ours included, with what it can't do.

Aubrium ResearchEditorial · Updated

An account with 2,131 followers posted a reel about cookies that came out looking a little questionable. It got over 50 million views.

That's not a fluke you can shrug off. It's the most useful kind of post on Instagram, because nothing else explains it. No famous face, no ad budget, no two million followers doing the heavy lifting. The idea did all the work. If you're a smaller creator, posts like that are your homework.

Finding them is the hard part. Your feed shows you what Instagram wants to show you, and that's mostly big accounts. So a whole category of tools has grown up to do the digging for you. We've paid for and used two of them, read the other seven's websites line by line this week, and one of them is ours. Here's what each one actually does, what it costs, and where it falls short.

The short answer

If you post on Instagram and have under 100,000 followers, start with a tool that lets you search accounts your size. That's what we built Aubrium for. If you need TikTok and Shorts as well, Sandcastles covers all three. If money's tight, ViralSpot does a lot for $25 a month.

Best for accounts under 100k: Aubrium

Every reel comes from an account with 1,000 to 100,000 followers. Filter by niche and country.

One plan with everything: ViralSpot

$25 a month for outliers, hooks, scripts and carousels, with no credit meter ticking.

Research done for you: Octupie

Tell it your niche and it picks the accounts to watch. Free for 7 days.

What does Aubrium do, and which of the others do it too?

Fair warning: this is our page, so you'd expect us to like our own tool. Rather than tell you it's great, here's a table. Every row is something Aubrium does, checked against what the other nine say on their own sites. Where they do it too, we say so. Where we don't, that's in here as well.

The question that decides: whose reels you see

Most tools on this page hunt for the same thing: reels that did far better than the account usually manages. Where they differ is whose reels they bother to look at. Get this part right and everything else is detail.

1

Watchlist

You hand it a list of accounts and it watches their reels for you. Brilliant for rivals you already know about. Less help finding the ones you don't. Sandcastles, CreatorHouse, Runwave AI, Metricool.

2

Feed

It picks the accounts for you and serves up their best reels. Zero set-up, but you mostly see what it chose to watch. Octupie, ViralSpot.

3

Library

A big, searchable pile of accounts you've never heard of, with filters. This is how you find ideas from outside your own bubble. Aubrium, Viral Outliers, Virlo, and Sandcastles from Pro up.

Even among the libraries, whose reels are in the pile differs. Aubrium's holds only accounts with 1,000 to 100,000 followers. With the others, size is a filter you set, where they offer one.

The 10 tools, one by one

1. Aubrium

LibraryFrom $49/mo

Best for: Creators under 100k who want ideas from accounts their size

Aubrium is a library of Instagram reels that reached far more people than the account has followers. Every account in it has between 1,000 and 100,000 followers, and that's the whole point: when a small account gets millions of views, the idea did that, not the fame.

Pick from 360 niches, then narrow it down by country, format, hook type, account size, whether someone talks to camera and whether it's AI-made. Each post shows its hook and how it was made, and most reels with speech carry their transcript. Around the library sit rival tracking, topic search, a score for your own reels, and tools that turn any post into your own script, carousel or remix.

Pricing
$49, $99 or $249 a month. Every plan has every tool.1

  • Only accounts your size, in 360 niches
  • Country, format, hook-type, on-camera and AI filters

  • Make my version, carousels and Remix built in
  • Works inside ChatGPT and Claude
Not so good
  • Instagram only. No TikTok or Shorts
  • No free plan or trial
  • No team seats, public API or scheduling

2. ViralSpot

Feed + watchlistFrom $25/mo

Best for: A cheap all-in-one for Instagram

ViralSpot is the bargain on this list. For $25 a month you get a feed of outliers, each scored against its account's normal, tracking for up to 20 competitors, plus scripts and carousels, and there are no credits to run out of.

Its site says it filters by "account size", which helps. A country filter is not on its site, and you notice: when we tried it on 19 September 2026, its default feed was global and full of repost pages. Aubrium vs ViralSpot goes into it line by line.

3. Octupie

Feed + watchlistFrom $29/mo

Best for: Creators who want the research done for them

Octupie is for people who'd rather not do the research at all. You tell it your niche when you sign up, it finds the top accounts in that niche, watches them for you, and flags the reels that break out.

Then it writes a script in your style in about 30 seconds. It's genuinely low-effort. The trade-off is that you see the accounts it picked, plus any you add, not a library you can search, and breakdowns are capped at 50 or 100 a month. Aubrium vs Octupie goes into it line by line.

4. Sandcastles

Watchlist + global searchFrom $49/mo; $5 Starter at sign-up

Best for: Posting the same video to Instagram, TikTok and Shorts

Sandcastles is the one to beat if you post the same video everywhere. One watchlist covers Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, it finds each channel's outliers, and it'll hand you transcripts and help with hooks and scripts.

We paid for it and used it. It's built around channels you add, so it's great at watching people you already know, and from Pro up a global search reaches people you don't.12 There's no creator-size filter on videos (channel search has one), credits expire every month, and there are no refunds on Pro, Visionary or Titan. Aubrium vs Sandcastles goes into it line by line.

Pricing
$49, $99 or $499 a month ($39, $79, $399 yearly).4 New accounts start on a $5 Starter.11
Trial
No free plan; Starter is "a paid plan, not a free trial". No refunds from Pro up.

  • Transcripts on every video
  • An agency plan with guest workspaces
Not so good
  • No size filter on videos
  • No country filter in its filter list
  • Credits expire monthly; no refunds from Pro up

5. Viral Outliers

Library + watchlistFrom $17/mo

Best for: Builders and agencies who want an API

Viral Outliers searches millions of outliers on TikTok, YouTube and Instagram, plus the profiles you follow, and scores every post against its account's normal. At $17 a month, it's the cheapest monthly plan here with a 7-day free trial, though it asks for a card.15

Its real party trick is the API and MCP connector, which let an AI agent search outliers and pull transcripts for you. Great if you build things. If you just want ideas, its app searches outliers with no cap and writes "a ready-to-shoot script and outline".15, 16 Aubrium vs Viral Outliers goes into it line by line.

Pricing
$17, $37 or $149 a month. Two months free yearly.5

  • Lowest monthly price with a 7-day trial
  • API and MCP
  • Three platforms
Not so good
  • A refund policy for plans is not on their site
  • Country not mentioned (language is)
  • Profile adds capped each month

6. CreatorHouse

WatchlistFrom $39/mo

Best for: Transcripts and hook types from accounts you follow

CreatorHouse tracks any public Instagram or TikTok account, transcribes every video, and labels the hook: a question, a stat, a story. A chat then turns any video you like into a script in your voice.

If you already know whose content you want to learn from, it's a tidy setup, and $97 a year is cheap. If you don't know yet, it suggests creators in your niche to track, but its own review of Sandcastles names "research beyond your watchlist" as one thing Sandcastles does better.21 Aubrium vs CreatorHouse goes into it line by line.

Pricing
$39 a month, $97 a year, or $14.99 a week6
Trial

Platforms

Good
  • Transcripts and hook types
  • A weekly plan for short projects
  • Cheap yearly price
Not so good
  • Only accounts you track
  • No size or country filter mentioned
  • Paid in tokens

7. Runwave AI

WatchlistFrom $19/mo

Best for: AI and automation creators who want a cheap first month

Runwave watches the accounts and keywords you point it at, shows trending reels in your niche, and breaks any reel down: the hook, the pacing, the B-roll, and the moment people stop watching. One click and you've got a script.

The first month of Starter is $5, which makes it an easy experiment. It says it's built for one kind of creator, people who post "about AI tools, automations, or no-code builds." Scheduling is still marked as coming soon, and a refund policy is not on its site. Aubrium vs Runwave AI goes into it line by line.

Pricing
$19 or $39 a month. First month of Starter $5.7

Platforms
Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts
Good
  • A $5 first month
  • Breaks down any reel you paste
  • Three platforms
Not so good
  • Built for AI and automation creators
  • No size or country filter mentioned
  • Scheduling not live yet

8. Virlo

Library + watchlistFrom $49/mo

Best for: Teams that want alerts, seats and an API

Virlo is social listening for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, built with teams in mind: tracked creators, alerts, seats, integrations and an MCP server. Its research agents search Virlo's own database of outlier videos for your keywords, once or on a schedule.

It runs on credits. One research run costs 100 of the 2,000 you get each month on the $49 plan, and tracking a creator costs 15 credits a day. That's plenty for a team that lives in alerts; on your own, count the runs you'd need first. If you're weighing it up, the best Virlo alternatives covers who else does this.

Pricing
$49 or $199 a month ($34 or $139 yearly). Enterprise from $499.8
Trial

Platforms
TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts

9. ViralFindr

Account searchFree

Best for: A quick account search on a free plan

ViralFindr does one thing. Search a public Instagram account, or open its explore feed of top posts, and you can download what you find, or save it on a paid plan.

Hooks, transcripts and scripts are not on its site. But there's a free plan with 3 searches, and only its explore feed needs an Instagram login, so it's a harmless place to start. If it's too simple for you, the best ViralFindr alternatives lists what to try next.

10. Metricool

WatchlistFree

Best for: Scheduling, with a look at competitors you know

Metricool is a scheduler first. It plans and publishes across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn and more, and reports on how you're doing. Its competitor view shows followers, interactions and recent posts for accounts you add.

It's a good tool, just not a discovery tool. Finding reels from accounts you aren't already tracking is not on its site. It's on this list because people ask about it, and because its free plan is a real one. Aubrium vs Metricool explains why you might use both.

How we picked

We paid for and used Sandcastles and ViralSpot on 19 September 2026. For the other seven we read each tool's website, pricing page and FAQ on 21 October 2026, and on 22 October 2026 we re-read every tool's site, those two included. Then we asked the same five questions of all ten:

  • Whose reels does it look at? Accounts you add, accounts it picks, or a library you can search.
  • Can you stick to accounts your size? A two-million-follower account going viral tells you very little.
  • Can you filter by country? What works in Ohio doesn't always work in Lagos.
  • Does it show you the hook and the words? The first line is usually the whole reason a reel worked.
  • What does it cost, and can you try it first? Entry price, trial, and what happens if you change your mind.

Questions people ask

What does Aubrium have that the others don't?

Three things, mostly. A library built only from creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, with a country filter and every post filed into each of 360 niches it fits. Filters for hook type, format, talking to camera and AI-made. And a score for your own reels against your niche, plus Remix. What it doesn't have: TikTok, Shorts, scheduling, or a free plan or trial.

Which tool shows viral reels from accounts my size?

Aubrium is built for exactly that: every account in its library has 1,000 to 100,000 followers. ViralSpot filters by "account size", and Viral Outliers by follower count. Sandcastles' channel search filters by account size, from Nano to Mega.13

Do these tools need my Instagram password?

Aubrium never asks for it. It reads public posts. ViralFindr says an Instagram login is optional. None of the other sites we read mention a password, though Runwave and Metricool have you link your accounts.

Which ones cover TikTok and YouTube Shorts too?

Sandcastles, Viral Outliers, Virlo and Runwave AI cover all three. CreatorHouse does Instagram and TikTok. Aubrium, ViralSpot, Octupie and ViralFindr are Instagram only. Metricool schedules to TikTok and YouTube as well as Instagram, but finding reels for you is not on its site.

Is there a free one?

ViralFindr has a free plan with 3 searches, and Metricool's free plan tracks 5 competitors you add. Octupie, Viral Outliers and Virlo give you 7 days free, CreatorHouse gives you 3. Aubrium has no free plan or trial, but it refunds a first plan in full within 15 days.

What counts as a viral reel?

Most of these tools mean the same thing: a reel that did far better than that account usually does. Aubrium's line is at least twice the account's followers and at least 10,000 views.

Can I use any of them inside ChatGPT or Claude?

Yes. Aubrium, Sandcastles (from Pro up), Viral Outliers, Virlo, Metricool, ViralSpot and Runwave AI all have an MCP connector.14, 19 CreatorHouse says it has none.21 Octupie and ViralFindr don't mention one.

Each of these takes one question from this page and goes deeper. First, the head-to-heads:

Then, if you're leaving a tool:

How we did this

We read every price and feature on each tool's own website on 21 October 2026, and re-read every tool's site on 22 October 2026, help centres, terms and their own blog posts included. What we saw inside Sandcastles and ViralSpot is from 19 September 2026, and this page says so where we use it. Prices change. If you spot one that's out of date, tell us and we'll fix it and move the date. And yes, Aubrium makes this page.

The library numbers are from Aubrium's own database, re-read on 22 October 2026, counting the posts members can see.

Changelog

  • Re-checked every tool's own site and corrected: how each tool finds reels; Sandcastles' $5 Starter, refunds and filters; Virlo's 7-day trial, yearly and Enterprise prices and refund rule; Runwave AI's Pro price and who it says it's built for, in place of our own verdict on it; ViralSpot's filters, with the date on what we saw in its app; which tools have an MCP connector; where the others partly match the rows in our table; the viral lines other tools publish; ViralFindr's free plan and login; Metricool's networks; Octupie's refund, which covers renewals, and the accounts you can add yourself; CreatorHouse's suggested creators; Virlo's credit costs, in place of our own sum. Library numbers re-read on 22 October 2026, and the countries tile replaced, because its count treated "not shared" as a country. Added links to the vs and alternatives pages; ViralSpot's pick reads "one plan with everything" instead of "cheapest all-in-one", and the "which one is right for you" table now wraps on a phone.
