The best tools to find reel ideas for small Instagram accounts (2026)
Most idea tools are built around big creators. We sorted eight by one question: will it show you reels from accounts your size? Plus the free options and prices.

An account with 1,461 followers posted a reel with one line on it: “Pov: you slept for 3 hours and decided to go gym.” It got 27 million views.
If you run a small account, that's the kind of reel worth studying, and it's exactly the kind most idea tools never show you. They're built to watch big creators, because big creators are easy to find. But when an account with two million followers goes viral, it tells you about fame. When an account with 1,461 does, it tells you about the idea.
So we took eight tools and asked one question first: will it show you reels from accounts your size? Then the usual ones. What does it cost, can you try it, and what does it leave out. The free options are at the end, because some of them are genuinely useful.
If you have under 10,000 followers, use a tool that filters by account size, so the ideas you study come from accounts like yours. Aubrium is built only from accounts with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, and you can narrow it further. ViralSpot has a follower slider for $25 a month. On no budget, start with ViralFindr's free plan.

Nearly half of all viral reels come from small accounts
Here's what our own library says, and it changes how you should think about this. Of the 286,423 viral reels and posts in it, 122,221 come from accounts with fewer than 10,000 followers. That's 43%. Almost 20,000 of those reels passed a million views, and 1,869 passed ten million.
Small accounts aren't the odd exception in viral reels. They're nearly half of them. If you want the wider field, the best tools to find viral reels compares ten tools for every size of account.
Aubrium's library, 21 October 2026.
Every one from an account with fewer than 10,000 followers. Views on the tile, followers underneath.
And the smaller the account, the further a hit travels compared to its following. The middle reel from an account under 2,000 followers reached 93 times its follower count. For accounts with 50,000 to 100,000, it was 10 times.
One honest caveat. Every reel in our library already went viral, that's how it got in, so none of this says how likely a small account is to go viral. It says what viral looks like when it happens to someone your size, which is exactly what you want to study.
What a small account needs from an idea tool
So here's what a small account actually needs from one of these tools, in the order it matters:
- Accounts your size. A filter, not a hope. Otherwise you're studying reels whose reach came from the follower count.
- Your niche, narrowly. “Fitness” is too broad to copy from. “Calisthenics” or “postpartum fitness” is useful.
- The hook and the words. The first line is usually why it worked, so you want to read it, not guess it.
- A price that fits where you are. And a way to try it, or a refund if it isn't for you.

Aubrium is built for this. Its library only holds reels from accounts with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, and you can narrow that to under 10,000 so every idea comes from someone in your position. Pick a niche from 360, filter by country, and every post shows its hook and how it was made.
It's Instagram only and there's no free trial, so it's not the place to start if you're spending nothing. If you're serious about growing and want ideas that actually match your size, it's the most direct route we know of. We would say that, it's ours, so the table below tells you exactly what the others offer instead.

FeedFrom $25/moBest for: A cheap all-in-one for Instagram
ViralSpot is the best value for a small account. Its follower slider goes from 1K to 50M, so you can drag it down to accounts like yours, and $25 a month covers outliers, hooks, scripts and carousels with no credits to watch.
The catch is that it has no country filter, and its default feed is global. Set the slider and pick a category before you judge it.

There's no size filter, so you'll see big accounts mixed in, and there are no hooks or transcripts. As a first look at what works in your niche, though, it costs you nothing.

4. Runwave AI

Runwave shows trending reels in your niche and breaks any reel down: the hook, the pacing, the B-roll, and where people stop watching. One click gives you a script.
The first month is $5, which makes it a cheap experiment. It doesn't say anything about filtering by account size, so you'll be studying whatever is trending, big or small.

- Not mentioned
- Pricing
- From $19 a month. First month $5.4
- Trial
- No trial; the $5 month instead
- Cheapest first month

CreatorHouse tracks the accounts you add and transcribes every video, labelling each hook. If you already know a few small accounts in your niche that keep hitting, add them and it'll show you why.
It won't find those accounts for you, though, and that's the hard part for most small creators. The $97 yearly plan is cheap once you have your list.
- Accounts your size?
- Only the accounts you choose to track
- Pricing
- $39 a month, $97 a year, or $14.99 a week5
- Trial
- 3 days free

6. Octupie
FeedFrom $29/moBest for: Creators who want the research done for them
Octupie does the research for you. It learns your niche when you sign up, finds the top accounts in it, and flags the reels that break out, then writes you a script in your style.
For a small account, “top accounts” is the problem: those are usually the biggest ones in your niche, and you can't filter them by size. You can follow 15 or 30 accounts of your own, so you can add smaller ones by hand.
- Accounts your size?
- No. It watches the top accounts in your niche
- Pricing
- $29 or $49 a month ($23 or $39 yearly)6
- Trial
- 7 days free, no card
- No set-up
- Scripts in your voice
- A real free trial
- You see the accounts it chose
- No size or country filter on its site

7. Viral Outliers
WatchlistFrom $17/moBest for: Builders and agencies who want an API
Viral Outliers shows every post that beat its account's normal for the profiles you follow, across TikTok, YouTube and Instagram. Its API lets you filter by follower count, which is useful if you're technical.
In the app you only see the accounts you add, so like CreatorHouse, finding the right small accounts is still on you. It's $17 a month with a 7-day trial.
- Accounts your size?
- A follower filter in its API; in the app, the accounts you add
- Pricing
- $17, $37 or $149 a month. Two months free yearly.7
- Trial
- 7 days free on every plan
- Lowest entry price with a trial
- API and MCP
- Three platforms
- Only the profiles you add
- Hooks and country not mentioned
- Profile adds capped each month
8. Sandcastles
WatchlistFrom $49/moBest for: Posting the same video to Instagram, TikTok and Shorts
Sandcastles is excellent if you post the same video to Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. It finds each channel's outliers and hands you the transcript.
It's the weakest fit here for a small account. There's no creator-size filter, it's built around channels you add, and when we used it, the fitness watchlist it set up for us didn't have a single visible account under 301,000 followers. There are no refunds either.
- Accounts your size?
- No size filter
- Pricing
- $49, $99 or $499 a month ($39, $79, $399 yearly)8
- Trial
- No free plan. No refunds on subscriptions.
- Three platforms in one place
- Transcripts on every video
- An agency plan with guest workspaces
- No creator-size filter
- No country filter
- Credits expire each month; no refunds
What about free tools and AI generators?
You can get a long way for nothing, as long as you know what each option can't do. The third one isn't free, but people ask about it.
Instagram's own search and Explore (Free)
Search a topic or scroll Explore and you'll see posts Instagram picks for you. It's the obvious place to start. You can't filter by follower count or country, or sort by views, so big accounts crowd out the ones you need.
ChatGPT or Claude (Free tier)
Great at writing hooks, captions and scripts once you have an idea, and at brainstorming angles. Neither can see view counts, so neither can tell you which ideas already worked for an account your size.
Predis.ai (From $19 a month, 3 days free)
Generates posts and ads with AI and analyses competitors you add. It makes content rather than showing you reels that went viral for other accounts.9

Questions small creators ask
Can a small Instagram account go viral?
Yes, and it isn't rare. In our library of 286,423 viral posts, 122,221 came from accounts with fewer than 10,000 followers, and almost 20,000 of those reels passed a million views. That describes reels that already went viral, not the odds for any one post.
Why not just study the biggest creators in my niche?
Because their reach comes partly from their following. A reel that went viral for an account with 2 million followers tells you less about the idea than one that went viral for an account with 3,000.
What's the best free way to find reel ideas?
ViralFindr's free plan gives you three keyword searches a month. Instagram's own search and Explore are free too, but you can't filter by account size. ChatGPT or Claude can help you write the reel once you have the idea.
How do I find accounts my size in my niche?
Aubrium filters by follower count inside each niche, and ViralSpot has a follower slider. Without either, search your niche on Instagram and open accounts one by one, checking their follower count against their views.
Do these tools need my Instagram password?
Aubrium never asks for it; it reads public posts. ViralFindr says an Instagram login is optional. None of the others we read say they need one.
How we did this
We read every price and feature on each tool's own website on 21 October 2026, and we paid for and used Sandcastles and ViralSpot. The library numbers are from Aubrium's own database on the same day, counting the posts members can see. Prices change; tell us if one is out of date and we'll fix it and move the date. Aubrium makes this page.
