The best Sandcastles alternatives for finding viral reels (2026)

Sandcastles answers the refund question in one line of its FAQ: "We unfortunately do not offer refunds on our subscription plans."1 Its terms of service put it in four words: "All sales are final."8

That alone isn't a reason to leave a tool that works for you. But if you're looking around, it's probably for one of a few reasons, and every one of them comes from Sandcastles' own pages. The credits reset each month. The API sits on a $499 plan. And the research starts from a list of channels you build. This page sorts the alternatives by those reasons, so you can skip to yours.

Fair warning: this is our page. We make Aubrium, one of the seven alternatives below, and we've already written the straight Aubrium vs Sandcastles comparison. This one answers a different question: if you're leaving, what else is there? We paid for Sandcastles and used it on 19 September 2026, and we read every tool's own site again on 22 October 2026. The short answer

It depends on why you're leaving. If you only post on Instagram and want ideas from accounts your size, Aubrium starts at $49 a month. To keep TikTok and Shorts, Viral Outliers covers all three from $17. For one flat price, ViralSpot is $25 with unlimited credits. If refunds are the worry, Octupie gives 7 days with no card, then refunds any payment within 14 days.

What Sandcastles is good at

A lot, starting with the thing no Instagram-only tool can copy. Sandcastles puts Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts in one watchlist: "Track any channel across Instagram, Tiktok and YouTube in one place."1 If you post the same video everywhere, that's the reason to stay.

It also hands you the transcript of any video, writes hooks and scripts from proven ones, and keeps more than 100 curated collections of outlier videos that every plan can browse.10 And it's exact about what it calls an outlier: "a video's views divided by the median views of that channel's videos posted in the 90 days up to that video."5

Why people look for a Sandcastles alternative

Mostly for things Sandcastles says plainly itself. None of them make it a bad tool. They make it a particular kind of tool, built around a watchlist. Its help centre gives the reason: a keyword search across a whole platform "brings back a lot of videos that have nothing to do with your niche."3 It also has a tip we agree with:

The catch is that its account-size filter works on channels, not videos. That's the fifth point below.

No refunds on Pro and up

Its FAQ and its terms both say no. Its help centre makes one exception: "On the $5 Starter plan, cancelling refunds your most recent $5 payment automatically."7 There's no pause either.

Credits that expire

Pro, Visionary and Titan come with 100, 250 or 1,500 credits a month. A video analysis or a script costs 1 credit, and a report has a base cost of its own. Whatever you don't use expires at the end of the month, on yearly plans too. Credit boosts you buy on top never expire.

The API is on the $499 plan

API access and guest access to your workspaces come with Titan only: $499 a month, or $399 billed yearly.

It starts with a list you build

"Your watchlist is the list of channels that builds your Videos feed."3 Global search on Pro and up looks past it, by keywords in captions and titles.2

Account size filters channels, not videos

When you look for channels to add, you can filter by "Account size (Nano, Micro, Small, Medium, Large, Mega)."4 Its list of video filters, and global search's, doesn't name it.5

No carousels or country filter on its site

Every page talks about videos, and its list of video filters doesn't name a country filter.5 Neither was in the app when we used it on 19 September 2026.

The alternatives, one by one

1. Aubrium

Best for: Instagram creators under 100k who want ideas from accounts their size

Aubrium is a library of Instagram posts that reached far more people than the account has followers. A reel gets in when it reaches at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. Every account in it has 1,000 to 100,000 followers, and the middle post comes from an account with 12,805 followers.

On 22 October 2026 that was 286,620 posts from 196,476 creators, filed into 360 niches. It holds 13,767 carousels and 6,526 photos as well as reels. Each post shows its hook, how it was made, the words when someone speaks, the caption and the audio.

Coming from Sandcastles, the big changes are the size band, a country filter and the formats. Around the library sit My Rivals (accounts you track, checked all month), topic search, Performance, and Make my version, Create Posts and Remix.

2. Viral Outliers

Best for: Keeping TikTok and YouTube in one search, for less

Viral Outliers is the closest swap if you post everywhere. It covers YouTube (long-form and Shorts), TikTok and Instagram Reels, "searchable in one place," and it scores each post against its own channel's usual numbers.13

Like Sandcastles, you can add the profiles you want watched and group them into watchlists. It also has a database of its own to browse by niche, and its blog says plan search is "filtered by niche, platform, outlier score, views, follower count and time window."15 Every plan includes an API and an MCP connector with monthly credits.

3. Octupie

Best for: Trying first, with no list to build

Octupie is the opposite of a watchlist. You tell it your niche when you sign up, and it "finds the top accounts in it, watches them for you," and flags the reels that break out.16 You can still follow a specific account, but you never have to build the list.

It writes a script in your style in about 30 seconds, in your language (Hinglish included), and its feed has carousels as well as reels. It's also the most generous here on money: 7 days free with no card, then a full refund within 14 days of any payment, renewals included.17

The trade-offs: Instagram only, breakdowns capped at 50 or 100 a month, and you see the accounts it picked. A size or country filter, transcripts and MCP aren't mentioned on its site. See Aubrium vs Octupie.

4. ViralSpot

ViralSpot is one plan, $25 a month or $20 a month billed yearly, with "Unlimited credits — no caps on what you generate."18 If credits are why you're leaving Sandcastles, that's the headline.

You get a feed of outliers scored against each account's usual, tracking for up to 20 competitors and five of your own pages, hooks, scripts in your voice, and a Carousel Studio that rebuilds carousels in your colours. Its MCP server has 38 tools and comes with the plan.19

We paid for it and used it on 19 September 2026. It had a follower slider then but no country filter, and its site doesn't mention one today. No trial is mentioned on its site, but you get a full refund within 14 days of your first payment, and you can pause for a month. See Aubrium vs ViralSpot.

5. Virlo

Best for: Teams on three platforms

Virlo covers TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, plus Meta's ad library.20 Instead of starting from a watchlist, you give a research agent a sentence or a few keywords. It searches Virlo's database and brings back the outliers, once or every day, week or month. Competitor tracking sits beside it.

It suits teams: 3 seats on Pro, alerts to Slack, Discord, email or webhooks, Zapier and n8n, exports, and an MCP server with 49 tools billed through its pay-as-you-go API. Hooks come with their hook type, and its Copilot writes scripts in your voice.

It runs on credits too. A research run is 100 of Starter's 2,000 a month, and tracking a creator is 15 credits for each daily check. Carousels aren't mentioned on its site, and country isn't offered as a filter on its home or pricing page.

6. Runwave AI

Best for: One creator on three platforms, on a flat bill

Runwave's feeds cover Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. It fills them from the accounts and keywords you give it, and ranks what's spreading against each account's own usual. Paste any reel and you get "the full transcript, hook analysis, viral score, and a ready-to-film script."21

The price is flat: Starter is $19 a month after a $5 first month, Pro is $39, and "No per-video charges, ever." Starter caps script adaptations at 10 a month. There's an MCP server for Claude.22

Know what it isn't. Its own Sandcastles page says "there is no pre-built catalogue to browse,"23 scheduling is still marked coming soon, and its home page says it's built for creators who post about AI tools and automation. A refund policy isn't on its site. See Aubrium vs Runwave AI.

7. CreatorHouse

Best for: Studying accounts you already know

CreatorHouse is a watchlist like Sandcastles, but Instagram-first and cheaper. You track any public Instagram or TikTok account, as many as you like, and every video is transcribed and its hook typed: a question, a stat, a story.24

A chat turns any video you pick into a script in your voice. Every plan has the same features. You pay in tokens: 10,000 a month on the monthly and yearly plans, and 5,000 more cost $12.

It suggests creators to track, but it isn't a library. Its own review of Sandcastles lists "Research beyond your watchlist" as a place Sandcastles is ahead, and says CreatorHouse has no Claude or ChatGPT connector.25 YouTube Shorts isn't covered, and refunds are "handled on a case-by-case basis."26 See Aubrium vs CreatorHouse.

What you pay for inside each one differs more than the prices do. Sandcastles and Virlo spend credits that reset each month. ViralSpot's credits are unlimited, Runwave AI promises "No per-video charges, ever," Octupie charges by plan, and CreatorHouse uses tokens.

Aubrium uses Sparks, and we'd rather you hear it from us: plan Sparks don't roll over either. They pay for what you make: 2 for Make my version, a script or a carousel, 10 for a topic search, 40 to track a rival for 30 days.11 Browsing, filtering and saving ideas never cost Sparks. One point to Sandcastles: its credit boosts never expire, while a Spark pack lasts a year.

Is there a Sandcastles alternative with a free trial?

Which alternative shows reels from small accounts?

Aubrium's library holds only accounts with 1,000 to 100,000 followers. On 22 October 2026, 43% of its posts came from accounts under 10,000 followers. ViralSpot and Viral Outliers list follower filters on their sites. Sandcastles' account-size filter is for finding channels; its video filters don't list one. Can I use these alternatives inside ChatGPT or Claude?

Aubrium, ViralSpot, Viral Outliers and Runwave AI have MCP servers. Virlo's comes with its pay-as-you-go API. Octupie's site doesn't mention one, and CreatorHouse's own review says it has none.
