The best Virlo alternatives for finding viral reels (2026)

Virlo covers three platforms, runs on credits and builds its bigger plans for teams. Here are seven alternatives for Instagram reels, ours included, gaps and all.

Aubrium ResearchEditorial · Updated

Virlo's $49 plan comes with 2,000 credits a month. One run of its research agent costs 100 of them. Tracking a creator costs 15 more for every daily collection of their posts.

For a marketing team, that's a fair trade. Virlo finds outliers, videos that pull far more views than their creator usually gets, across TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, and its agents keep looking after you close the tab. But if you're one person posting reels on Instagram, you might not want a meter running while you hunt for ideas. That's the gap this page is about.

Fair warning: this is our page, and Aubrium is one of the alternatives below. We read virlo.ai and the sites of all seven alternatives on 22 October 2026, and we've paid for and used two of them. Virlo is also one of the ten tools in the best tools to find viral reels. Here's what Virlo does well, why people leave, and where each alternative fits.

The short answer

It depends on why you're leaving. If you post on Instagram and want ideas from accounts your size, try Aubrium ($49 a month). If you want Virlo's three platforms and an API for less, Viral Outliers starts at $17. If credits are the problem, ViralSpot has unlimited credits for $25. If you want a trial with no card, Octupie gives you 7 days.

Best for Instagram accounts under 100k: Aubrium

Every reel comes from an account with 1,000 to 100,000 followers. Filter by niche and country.

Closest to Virlo, for less: Viral Outliers

TikTok, YouTube and Instagram, an API and an MCP connector, from $17 a month with a 7-day trial.

No credits to count: ViralSpot

One plan at $25 a month with unlimited credits. Instagram only.

What is Virlo good at?

Virlo calls itself social listening for short video: it watches what gets posted and flags what takes off. It covers TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts for organic posts, plus Meta's ad library for paid ones. Its pricing page says all four come with every plan.1

The heart of it is the research agent. You tell it what to hunt for in one sentence, and it runs once or keeps searching every day, week or month.2 You can also hand it 1 to 20 keywords and pick your platforms. Each run brings back outliers, top creators, trending hashtags, slideshows, breakout sounds, and duet and stitch chains.3

VirloHome page
“Set it up once. Your agent keeps finding outlier videos in your niche after you close the tab.”
Open the page

You can also follow any competitor or creator, and Virlo tells you when one of their videos breaks out.2 Results can go straight to your team, in Slack, Discord, email, webhooks, Zapier or n8n.5

Every video comes broken down into its hook, format and angle. Its copilot, Vee, writes a script in your voice from any winner you pick. Reports export as PDF, Excel, CSV or JSON.2 Pro includes three team seats.1 There's also an MCP server with 49 tools, which lets AI apps like Claude use Virlo directly. It's billed through a pay-as-you-go API,6 which you can use without a Virlo plan.2

If you run content for several brands, that's a real toolkit. Virlo's home page says many agencies run 15 or more client niches from one account.2 And you can try every feature free for 7 days.1

Why do people look for a Virlo alternative?

Most of the reasons are on Virlo's own pricing and refund pages. None of them make it a bad tool. They're about fit: a lot of Virlo is built for teams, and you might be one person with one account.

The first reason is credits. Virlo's pricing page says credits are spent "when actions are performed in the web app", and it lists what the main ones cost.1

100credits for one run of a research agent
2,000credits a month on Starter, $49
12,000credits a month on Pro, $199
15credits per daily collection, for each creator you track

From Virlo's pricing page, read 22 October 2026.

On monthly plans, credits reset on your billing date and don't roll over.1 Unused credits can't be refunded.4 Its terms say that on an annual plan, unused credits do carry over until the year is up.8 To be fair, its research-agent page adds: "Your first agent is free on any paid plan."3

1

The next plan up is $199

Starter is $49 a month for 2,000 credits and no team seats. Pro is $199 for 12,000 credits and three seats, and Enterprise starts at $499. Paid yearly, Starter and Pro are $34 and $139 a month.1

2

A lot of it is built for teams

Virlo pitches Starter at "Solo operators & freelancers" and Pro at "Growing agencies & teams". Seats and client reports lean toward the second group. If you're one creator with one account, you may not need most of it.1

3

You might post on one platform

If you only post on Instagram, TikTok, Shorts and Meta ads are coverage you may not use. Its home and pricing pages also don't list a country or follower-size filter for videos, though its changelog mentions region and minimum-follower filters.7

Virlo alternatives at a glance

The column that decides most of this is how each tool finds reels. A watchlist shows outliers from accounts you add. A feed picks the accounts for you. A library lets you search accounts you've never heard of. Virlo mixes tracking with agents that search its own database by keyword.

The alternatives, one by one

Seven tools. Ours goes first because it's our page, and its card lists what it can't do.

1. Aubrium

LibraryFrom $49/mo

Best for: Instagram creators under 100k who want ideas from accounts their size

Aubrium is ours. It's a library of viral Instagram posts, mostly reels. A reel gets in when it reaches far more people than the account has followers, and every account in it has between 1,000 and 100,000 followers. On 22 October 2026 it held 286,620 posts, 266,327 of them reels, from 196,476 creators, filed into 360 niches.

You narrow it down by country, format, hook type, account size, talking to camera or not, and AI-made or not. Each post shows its hook, its numbers against the account's followers and how it was made, and reels with speech carry their transcript. Around the library sit My Rivals, My Searches for any topic you name, Performance for your own reels, and Make my version, which turns any viral post into your own reel script or carousel.

On credits, here's the honest version: Aubrium has them too, and calls them Sparks. Searching the library, filtering and saving never cost any. What you make does: a script or a carousel is 2 Sparks, a topic search is 10, and tracking a rival is 40 for 30 days. It's also Instagram only, with no trial and no team seats.

Pricing
$49, $99 or $249 a month, monthly only. Every plan has every tool.9

2. Viral Outliers

Watchlist + libraryFrom $17/mo

Best for: Virlo's three platforms and an API, for less

Viral Outliers is the closest thing to Virlo on this list, at a lower price. It covers TikTok, YouTube and Instagram, scores each post against its creator's recent normal, and lets you search outliers by niche, platform, language and recency.11

Like Virlo, it has a REST API and an MCP connector, so an AI agent can search outliers and pull transcripts for you. You can even buy API credits without a plan.12 The trade-offs: you can only add so many profiles a month, its pages don't mention a country filter, and transcripts are described only for the API and MCP, not the web app.

3. ViralSpot

FeedFrom $25/mo

Best for: No credit meter, Instagram only

If credits are why you're leaving, ViralSpot is the simplest fix. It's one plan, $25 a month, with "Unlimited credits" on the card.14 You get a feed of outliers scored against each account's normal, and tracking for up to 20 competitors. It also writes hooks, and scripts in your voice for a reel, a carousel or a single post.

We paid for it and used it on 19 September 2026. Its feed was global by default, and we didn't find a country filter in the app. Its site doesn't mention one today. It's Instagram only and its site doesn't mention a trial, but you can get your first payment back within 14 days.

4. Octupie

FeedFrom $29/mo

Best for: Research done for you, and a trial with no card

Octupie is for people who'd rather not build a list at all. It learns your niche during onboarding, finds the top accounts in it, watches them for you and shows you the outliers. Pick a hook and it writes a ready-to-film script in your style in about 30 seconds.

It charges by plan, not by credit, though breakdowns are capped at 50 or 100 a month.15 It's Instagram only, its site doesn't mention a size or country filter, and you see the accounts it picked (plus any you add) rather than a library you search. Its refund covers every payment, renewals included: 14 days, for any reason.16

5. Sandcastles

WatchlistFrom $49/mo

Best for: Keeping TikTok and Shorts, with transcripts

Sandcastles is the pick if you want to keep three platforms. One watchlist covers Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. It finds each channel's outliers, breaks a video down into its hook, storytelling and format, and gives you the transcript. Every full plan, from Pro up, adds an MCP connector17 and a global search of every video in Sandcastles.18

We paid for it and used it on 19 September 2026, and our full comparison is Aubrium vs Sandcastles. It runs on credits too: 100, 250 or 1,500 a month, and unused ones expire at the end of each month. Its help centre lists an account-size filter for finding channels, but none for videos, and no country filter.18 There are no refunds on its main plans.

  • Size filter on videos: not on their site; not in the app on 19 Sep 2026
  • No refunds on Pro and up

6. Runwave AI

FeedFrom $19/mo

Best for: A cheap first month to test the idea

Runwave shows trending reels in your niche and breaks any reel down: the hook, the pacing, the B-roll, and where people drop off. Then it writes that format back as a ready-to-film script in your voice, from a knowledge base of your offers and old scripts.19

It costs from $19 a month, the first month of Starter is $5, and there are no per-video charges. Its own pages say there's no pre-built catalogue to browse: the feed comes from the accounts and keywords you point it at. Its home page says it's built for creators who post about AI tools, automation or no-code, and scheduling is still marked as coming soon.

7. CreatorHouse

WatchlistFrom $39/mo

Best for: Transcripts and hook types from accounts you follow

CreatorHouse tracks any public Instagram or TikTok account, transcribes every video and labels the hook: a question, a stat, a story. Its transcript tool keeps the narration and the on-screen text apart. A chat then turns any video you like into a script in your voice.20

Every plan has every feature, and creator tracking is unlimited. The plans differ only in how you pay and how many tokens you get. Tokens are its credits, so know that going in. Its research stays inside the accounts you track (it suggests some to start with), and in its own words, YouTube Shorts is "a gap we don't fill".21

Questions people ask

What is the best Virlo alternative?

It depends on why you're leaving. If you post on Instagram, have under 100,000 followers and want ideas from accounts your size, it's Aubrium, which we make. If you want Virlo's three platforms and an API for less, it's Viral Outliers, from $17 a month.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Virlo?

Yes. Viral Outliers starts at $17 a month, Runwave AI at $19 (with a $5 first month) and ViralSpot at $25. Virlo's Starter is $49 a month, or $34 a month billed yearly.

Which Virlo alternatives don't use credits?

ViralSpot lists "Unlimited credits" on its one plan, and Runwave AI says there are no per-video charges. Octupie charges by plan, with monthly caps on breakdowns. Aubrium doesn't charge for searching the library, filtering or saving, but making a post, searching a new topic or tracking a rival costs Sparks.

Does Virlo have a free trial?

Yes. Its pricing page gives Starter and Pro a 7-day free trial. Once it ends, Virlo's refund policy says no refunds are issued on monthly or annual plans.

Which alternatives cover TikTok and YouTube Shorts too?

Sandcastles, Viral Outliers and Runwave AI cover Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. CreatorHouse covers Instagram and TikTok. Aubrium, ViralSpot and Octupie are Instagram only.

Can I use them inside ChatGPT or Claude?

Virlo has an MCP server, sold as part of its pay-as-you-go API. Aubrium, Sandcastles (from Pro up), Viral Outliers, ViralSpot and Runwave AI all say they have one too. CreatorHouse says it doesn't, in its own review of Sandcastles, and Octupie's site doesn't mention one.

Can Virlo show reels from small accounts?

Virlo ranks each video against its creator's usual views, so a small account's breakout can rank above a big account's normal week. Its search lets you ask for creators "under 100K followers", and its changelog mentions a minimum-follower filter, but its home and pricing pages don't list a follower-size filter for videos. Every account in Aubrium's library has 1,000 to 100,000 followers.

How we checked

We read virlo.ai on 22 October 2026: its home, pricing, about, research-agent, MCP, changelog and refund pages, and its terms. One thing to know if you check it yourself: virlo.ai sends a shorter summary to readers that ask for plain text, as some AI tools do. That summary gives no trial length and calls Enterprise custom-priced. We used the full page a person sees in a browser.

For the seven alternatives, we read each tool's home, pricing and FAQ pages on the same day, and its refund policy where it has one. We also paid for and used Sandcastles and ViralSpot on 19 September 2026, and anything from those sessions says so. Then we asked each one the same things: which platforms, how it finds reels, whether you can stick to accounts your size and your country, how it charges, and what happens if you change your mind.

Aubrium's library numbers come from its own database on 22 October 2026, counting the posts members can see. Aubrium makes this page. If you spot a price that's out of date, tell us and we'll fix it and move the date.
