How long should a postpartum hook be?
Aim for 5 to 8 words. That band went furthest on postpartum reels, though the middle hook runs a little longer, at 11.
With 5 to 8 words, the middle reel reached 29 times its account's followers. From 9 to 20 words it held at 21 to 22, and past 20 words it fell to 15. The shortest hooks, 1 to 4 words, reached only 13, so short isn't the whole story. “Nobody warns you about 4 months” is six words and says everything.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Put it on screen. 70% of viral postpartum reels show the hook as text with no voice, and those went furthest.
The middle reel with silent text reached 29 times its creator's followers. Text read aloud reached 17, and a voice alone 14. A line like “not how I saw my postpartum going” needs no voice to land.
