The best Viral Outliers alternatives for finding viral reels (2026)

Viral Outliers searches three platforms and has an API, but its search matches letters and leans on big accounts. Seven alternatives, tested hands-on, ours too.

Aubrium ResearchEditorial · Updated

Viral Outliers is a search box over posts from Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Type a word, and it lists the posts that contain it, ranked by how far each one beat its account's average. It starts at $17 a month, and it comes with an API, a way for your own software to use it.1, 2

For plenty of people, that's enough. Others go looking after a few searches. The results lean towards big accounts. Filter down to small ones, and many of the "outliers" did worse than their account usually does. And because the search matches letters rather than topics, it can bring back posts that have nothing to do with what you typed.

This guide covers seven alternatives. Our team studied each app hands-on in October 2026, Viral Outliers included, and we'll show you where each one is strong and where it falls short. We make Aubrium, one of the seven, so read with that in mind. We've also put Viral Outliers and Aubrium side by side on their own page.

The short answer

If you post on Instagram, Aubrium is the best Viral Outliers alternative for most creators. Every reel in it comes from an account with 1,000 to 100,000 followers and reached far more people than its creator has followers. On 141 of 150 keywords, it had more of those reels than Viral Outliers returned for Instagram accounts under 100,000, viral or not. If you need TikTok and YouTube too, Virlo is the closest swap.

What is Viral Outliers good at?

Quite a lot, starting with the idea. Its own site puts it well:

Viral OutliersHome page
“An outlier is a post that dramatically beats its own channel's normal performance.”
Open the page

It looks for those posts across YouTube, TikTok and Instagram Reels, in one search.1 Here's what it does better than most:

Three platforms, one search

Filter by niche, platform, date, views, engagement and follower count.3

A follower range you set

Any minimum and any maximum, so you can ask for small accounts only. It's simple, and it's honest.

An API and an MCP server

An MCP server links a tool to an AI assistant. Both come with every plan, or you can buy API credits without one.4, 5

Small touches that help

Paid posts carry a Sponsored tag. A time window shows what worked for an account lately. One click turns a post's script into a fill-in-the-blanks template.

It's also the cheapest way in on this list: $17, $37 or $149 a month, each with a 7-day trial.2

Why do people look for a Viral Outliers alternative?

Mostly because of what comes back when you search. Here's what that looked like in our tests.

1

Big accounts by default

In its default view, the typical account behind the top results had 212,433 followers, and 69% had more than 100,000.

2

Outliers that aren't

It lists every post that contains your words, sorted by its score. Filtered to Instagram accounts under 100,000, 45% of the top results did worse than their creator's usual.

3

Thin for small accounts

Under 10,000 followers, 47 of 147 searches found nothing. And 41% of what came back was from businesses, like a spa and a budgeting app, not creators.

4

Letters, not topics

A post shows up if your word appears anywhere in its text. "Cat" matched "education", and "foundation" brought up a physio clinic.

5

Nothing read for you

Posts come with no hook, format or topic labels, and a transcript costs a credit.

6

No country

It shows no country for any post, and has no country or language filter, though its home page mentions language.

None of this makes it a bad tool. If you post everywhere, or you want an API to build on, it does things few others here do. If you mostly post on Instagram from a small account, read on.

What should you look for in a Viral Outliers alternative?

Here's the checklist we used. Most lines are one of the reasons above, turned around.

What a good Viral Outliers alternative gets right

  • Yes: It shows reels from accounts your size, without a filter to set
  • Yes: Every "viral" reel really did beat what its account usually gets
  • Yes: Its search finds posts about what you typed, not just your letters
  • Yes: Each post comes already read: its hook, its format, what's said
  • Yes: You can see where creators are, and filter by country
  • Yes: If it writes scripts, it doesn't make up facts

If you post the same video on TikTok and YouTube, or you build your own tools, add one more line: it covers those platforms, or it has an API.

How we tested them

We didn't stop at each tool's website. Our team used each app the way a creator would, from the inside, Viral Outliers included.

We ran more than 1,300 searches across the tools that have a search box, with the same keywords in each, and kept every result. For each one we noted who posted it, how many followers they had, how the reel did, and whether it matched what we searched for. In Viral Outliers, we typed each keyword three times: in its default view, limited to Instagram accounts under 100,000 followers, and limited to Instagram accounts under 10,000. We ran the same keywords on Aubrium's library, so the comparison is like for like.

For the writing, every tool that writes got the same five viral reels: a face-wash ranking, a tinted sunscreen launch, a pilates class in a parking lot, a run of baking fails and a coffee cart's first quote. The scripts were then scored blind by AI reviewers, software that reads text and scores it, with one scorecard and no tool names, in two separate rounds.

Viral Outliers alternatives at a glance

Here's how the seven rank once you put them through all of that. On the same tests, Viral Outliers itself would sit between Octupie and Sandcastles. The full reviews follow, then the numbers behind the ranking.

The seven alternatives, one by one

1. Aubrium

LibraryFrom $49/mo

Best for: Instagram creators who want ideas from accounts their size

Aubrium is a library of Instagram reels and posts that reached far more people than their creator has followers. Every account in it has between 1,000 and 100,000 followers, so there's no follower range to set.

There are more than 260,000 posts in it today, from more than 190,000 creators, filed into 350+ niches by what each post is about. Every post has already been read: its hook type, its format, whether someone talks to camera and whether it's AI-made. You can filter by all of those, and by the creator's country.

Around the library sit Make my version (your own script, hooks and a caption from any reel), My Rivals, which flags the reel breaking out on an account like yours, and a score for your own reels. It all works inside ChatGPT and Claude. Coming from Viral Outliers, the trade-offs are plain: Instagram only, no public API, no follower range of your own, and a higher price.

2. Virlo

AI search + research agentsFrom $49/mo

Best for: Teams who want alerts across TikTok, Reels and Shorts

Virlo is the closest swap if you want to keep three platforms. It covers TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. You chat with its assistant, set up research agents that keep collecting videos on a topic, and get alerts when something takes off. Pro comes with 3 team seats.9 Builders aren't left out: its MCP server is billed through a pay-as-you-go API.10

Its writing came second in our blind test, close behind ours, and it's careful not to make things up. Finding Instagram reels is its weak side. Instagram is a small share of what it holds, and its search matches an AI summary of each video rather than the words in it, so half of the results we got didn't have the keyword in the caption. Most of the Instagram reels its research agents collected for us hadn't beaten the account's own followers.

It also can't read a reel from a link unless that reel is already in its library.

3. ViralSpot

AI agent + watchlistFrom $25/mo

Best for: Human-sounding scripts, if you know whose reels to watch

ViralSpot is the swap if you'd rather talk to a tool than set filters. You ask an AI agent in plain words, and it finds reels, breaks them down and writes scripts that sound genuinely human. It's one plan with "Unlimited credits", where Viral Outliers gives you a set number of AI scripts a month.11 Its MCP server comes with the plan.12

Its scripts sounded the most human in our blind test, and it never made up a fact: where it didn't know one, it left a blank for you.

The catch is where its reels come from. Its Outliers feed shows only accounts you track, up to 20, and each slot locks for three days once you fill it. Its wider search is built from what its own users track. Over 90 keywords and the last 30 days, it found 532 posts from accounts with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, where Aubrium had more than 4,000. And 63% of its results with a caption had none of the words we searched.

4. CreatorHouse

WatchlistFrom $39/mo

Best for: Transcripts of accounts you already follow

CreatorHouse is a watchlist for Instagram and TikTok, with no cap on how many accounts you follow.13 You type in the accounts. It transcribes any of their videos you pick, on-screen text and all, and pulls out its hook. Its chat turns a video into a script, and writes a list of hooks when you ask, where Viral Outliers gives you one script and no list. Its hooks were among the strongest in our blind test.

There's no search, so it suits people who already know whose content to learn from. If you don't know yet, its suggestions lean towards very famous accounts: across its 19 niche lists, the typical suggested account had 3.8 million followers.

Its scripts also added details that weren't in the reel, like a six-hour sunscreen wear test. And when we tracked a lot of accounts at once, the feed stopped loading at about 40.

5. Octupie

Account search + picked feedFrom $29/mo

Best for: Research done for you, on accounts it picks

Octupie is the opposite of a search box. You tell it your niche, and it "finds the top accounts in it, watches them for you," and flags the reels that break out.15 It writes lots of hooks, around 40 a reel, and its scripts come in your language, Hinglish included.16

It's also the kindest here on money: 7 days with no card, then a full refund within 14 days of any payment, renewals included.16, 17

The trade-off is what you see. It can't search posts, only accounts by their name and bio, and the accounts it returned had a typical 224,000 followers. About a third of its hooks fit the reel well enough to use, and its scripts were short, 20 to 30 seconds.

6. Sandcastles

Watchlist + global searchFrom $49/mo

Best for: Posting the same video on three platforms

Sandcastles is the other way to keep three platforms. It puts Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts in one watchlist, and on Pro and up, a global search looks past your list by the words in captions and titles.18, 19 Its top plan, Titan, adds an API.20 Its write-up of a single video reads well.

Its search has the same lean as Viral Outliers' default view. In the same 147 searches, the typical account in its top results had 125,849 followers, against Aubrium's 5,607, and 24% of its top results were posted before 2024. Reading a video's breakdown costs a credit each time, and there's no country filter. Its scripts lost the most points in our test for adding statistics nobody can back up.

7. Runwave AI

Live pullsFrom $19/mo

Best for: Creators who post about AI tools

Runwave pulls reels live from the accounts and keywords you give it, across Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, and ranks them against each account's usual.22, 23 The price is flat: "No per-video charges, ever."22 Its script outline editor is nice to use, and there's an MCP server for Claude.23

It keeps no library of its own, so when its data source is down, so is the search. In our test that's what happened: its data provider was out of credits, and every search came back empty. Its hook writer wasn't told what the reel was about, so it wrote hooks about side hustles for a skincare reel. Its home page says it's built for creators who post about AI tools and automation.22

The numbers behind the ranking

If you want the detail, here it is. Each part puts Viral Outliers first, so you can see what you'd be swapping.

Whose reels do they show you?

We searched the same keywords in each tool and looked at the accounts behind the top results. Unless you set its follower filter, Viral Outliers sits near the big end.

ToolThe accounts in its results
Viral OutliersDefault view, typical account: 212,433 followers. 69% over 100,000, 15% over a million
AubriumTypical account: 5,607 followers. None over 100,000, two in three under 10,000
SandcastlesTypical account: 125,849 followers. 58% over 100,000, 9% over a million
OctupieIts search returns accounts, typically 224,000 followers. 18% over a million
CreatorHouseNo search. Its suggested accounts had a median of 3.8 million followers

Its follower filter does bring the size down. Set to Instagram accounts under 10,000, the typical account had 4,361 followers. But 47 of 147 searches came back empty, and 41% of what was left came from businesses, like a spa, a jeweller and a budgeting app.

Did the reels really beat their account?

This is the biggest difference. Viral Outliers doesn't keep only the posts that beat their account. It lists every post that contains your words, sorted by its score, so when there aren't many good ones, weak ones fill the page.

What we found when we checked the numbers

  • No: Viral Outliers, Instagram under 100,000: 45% of the top results did worse than their creator's usual, by its own score
  • No: Viral Outliers, Instagram under 10,000: 60% of the top results did worse than their creator's usual
  • No: Virlo: 87% of the Instagram reels its beauty research agent collected had fewer views than the account has followers
  • No: Sandcastles: 7% of its "outlier" scores were broken, with the score equal to the view count
  • Yes: Aubrium: every reel reached far more people than its creator has followers

To be fair to Viral Outliers, none of its scores were broken that way. But for "mascara" and "eyeshadow", not one of its top results for Instagram accounts under 100,000 beat its creator's usual.

In Aubrium, the typical reel reached 18 times its creator's followers, and it simply had more of them. On 141 of 150 keywords, Aubrium had more viral posts from Instagram accounts under 100,000 than Viral Outliers returned for those accounts at all, viral or not.

Does the search find what you typed?

Viral Outliers matches letters, not topics. A post shows up if your word appears anywhere in its text, even inside another word.

ToolWhat its search really matchesWhat we found
Viral OutliersAny text containing your letters"Cat" matched "education". "Curls" brought up bicep curls
AubriumCaptions, transcripts and posts filed by topicResults on the topic you picked
ViralSpotIts own topic labels, from accounts its users track63% of results had none of our words
VirloAn AI summary of each videoHalf the results didn't have the keyword
OctupieAccount names and bios41% of accounts were on topic
CreatorHouseNothing; there's no searchYou type each account in yourself

It can also miss posts that are about your topic but spell it another way. Across its three platforms, "curly hair routine" found 52 posts, and "#curlyhairroutine" found 349. Aubrium files each post into every niche it fits, by what the post is about, so a reel that names its topic only in a hashtag still lands in the right place.

Country is part of this too. Viral Outliers shows no country for any post, and it has no country filter. Aubrium knows the creator's country for 96% of its posts, across 200 countries, and lets you filter by it. ViralSpot, Octupie and CreatorHouse showed no country either, Sandcastles has no country filter, and Virlo had a region on 4% of its Instagram results.

Aubrium came first in both rounds, with no reviewer scoring another tool above it, and wrote 8 of the 15 "best hook of the reel" picks. Viral Outliers came sixth. Its scripts kept the reel's format and came with a useful checklist of what to film. Where it lost most was facts:

What Viral Outliers wrote

For the tinted sunscreen launch, it swapped the reel's brand for e.l.f. and wrote "Elf just dropped not 10 or 12, but 15 new shades", with "SPF 30". For the face-wash ranking, it kept the reel's scores but moved most of them onto brands the reel never rated.

Claims about a real brand you'd have to check before you say them on camera.
What the top three did

Aubrium kept each reel's own story and turned it into a timed shot list with 23 hooks and a caption. Virlo and ViralSpot left a blank where they didn't know a number, rather than guess.

Aubrium, Virlo and ViralSpot took the top three places.

It also writes one script per post, with no list of hooks. Aubrium gives you 23 with every script, and CreatorHouse and Octupie give you a list too.

Questions people ask

What is the best Viral Outliers alternative?

For most Instagram creators, Aubrium. Every reel in it comes from an account with 1,000 to 100,000 followers and reached far more people than that, and its scripts scored highest in our blind test. If you need TikTok and YouTube too, Virlo came closest.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Viral Outliers?

Not really. At $17 a month, Viral Outliers has the lowest entry price on this list.2 Runwave AI is $19 with a $5 first month, and ViralSpot is $25.22, 11 Aubrium starts at $49.7

Which alternatives have an API?

Virlo sells a pay-as-you-go API, and bills its MCP server through it.10 Sandcastles adds an API on its top plan, Titan.20 Aubrium has no public API, but it works inside ChatGPT and Claude, and ViralSpot and Runwave AI have MCP servers too.12, 23

Does Viral Outliers work for small accounts?

You can filter it to small accounts, but the results get thin. With Instagram accounts under 10,000 followers, 47 of 147 searches came back empty, and 60% of the top results did worse than their creator's usual. Every account in Aubrium has 1,000 to 100,000 followers.

Can Viral Outliers filter by country or language?

No. It shows no country for any post, and we didn't find a language filter in the app, though its home page mentions one. Aubrium knows the creator's country for 96% of its posts and lets you filter by it.

Does Viral Outliers give refunds?

Its 7-day trial asks for a card, but nothing is charged until day 8.1 We found no refund terms for its plans on its site, and its terms say credits can't be refunded once used.6 Aubrium refunds a first plan in full within 15 days.8

Which alternatives cover TikTok and YouTube too?

Virlo, Sandcastles and Runwave AI cover TikTok and YouTube Shorts. CreatorHouse covers Instagram and TikTok. Aubrium, ViralSpot and Octupie are Instagram only.

Each of these goes deeper on one tool or question from this page:

How we did this

Our team studied each app hands-on in October 2026, using it the way a creator would, Viral Outliers included. We ran more than 1,300 searches across the tools that have one, with the same keyword list in each, and saved every result: the account, its followers, the views, the tool's own score and the caption. In Viral Outliers we ran each keyword in three views (its default, Instagram under 100,000 followers, and Instagram under 10,000) and kept the top 25 of each. We ran the same keywords on Aubrium's library. The five script reels were the same for every tool. Where a plan capped a step, we used what it allowed and counted only what it produced.

The scripts were scored blind by AI reviewers with one scorecard and no tool names, in two rounds of three; Viral Outliers was scored in the second. Prices, trials and refund terms are from each tool's own site, read on 22 October 2026. Aubrium's numbers come from its own database, read on 23 October 2026. Prices and apps change. If something here is out of date, tell us and we'll fix it and move the date. And yes, Aubrium makes this page.
