ViralSpot vs Viral Outliers: which finds better reel ideas?
ViralSpot is an AI agent for Instagram. Viral Outliers is a search box across three platforms, with an API. Our team tested both hands-on, next to Aubrium.

If you've looked for a cheaper way to find viral reels, you've probably come across ViralSpot and Viral Outliers. Both start below $30 a month. Both look for outliers, posts that did far better than their account usually does. And both will turn a post you like into a script.
They work in very different ways, though. ViralSpot is an AI agent you chat with. You ask in plain words, and it searches, reads reels and writes for you. It's Instagram only.
Viral Outliers is a search box. You type a word, set your filters, and it lists posts from TikTok, YouTube and Instagram, ranked by how far each one beat its account. It also sells an API, for people who build their own tools.
Our team studied both apps hands-on in October 2026, with the same kind of searches in each and the same five reels for their script writers. We also ran everything through Aubrium, which we make, so you can see how a library built only from accounts your size compares. Both tools appear in our guide to the best viral reel finders too.
ViralSpot is the better writer: its scripts came third of eight in our blind test and never made up facts, where Viral Outliers came sixth. Viral Outliers is the wider tool, with three platforms, your own follower filter and an API. If you post on Instagram and want ideas from accounts your size, Aubrium beats both: every reel comes from an account with 1,000 to 100,000 followers and beat its account.
An agent you chat with that finds reels, breaks them down and writes for you, plus a feed of up to 20 accounts you track. Instagram only.
A search box over posts from TikTok, YouTube and Instagram, ranked by how far each beat its account's average, with an API for builders.
What does ViralSpot do?
ViralSpot is built around an AI agent. You ask for what you want in plain words, like this week's top reels in your niche, and it searches, reads reels and writes for you. It shows each step as it works, and it's honest about what it couldn't check.
Next to the agent sits a feed called Outliers. It shows the best posts from the accounts you track, ranked by how far each one beat that account's usual views. You can track up to 20 accounts, and each slot locks for 3 days once you fill it. A new post from a tracked account shows up within hours.
To look past those accounts, you ask the agent. It searches ViralSpot's own collection of posts, and that collection is built from the accounts its users track. The agent also breaks a reel down second by second, writes hooks and scripts, and can audit your own page.
It's one plan with no credits to count: $25 a month on a launch offer, or $20 a month billed yearly.1 There's no trial, but you can get your first payment back within 14 days.2
What does Viral Outliers do?
Viral Outliers is a search box over a database of posts from TikTok, YouTube and Instagram. Its own site puts the idea well:
“An outlier is a post that dramatically beats its own channel's normal performance.”
Type a word, and it lists the posts that contain it, sorted by its outlier score: a post's views divided by its account's average views.5 You can narrow a search by platform, niche, date, views and follower count, with a minimum and a maximum you pick. Paid posts carry a Sponsored tag, so you can tell an ad from the real thing.
The database holds posts from a set of accounts: ones its users add, and ones the company adds itself. You can follow accounts in watchlists and save posts into projects. Its Content Remix takes any public post link and rewrites the script for your topic, with a caption and a checklist of what to film.
It's also built for builders. A REST API and an MCP server let AI agents and your own scripts search it.6 Plans are $17, $37 or $149 a month, and each starts with a 7-day trial, with a card.4
How are they different?
Here's the short version. ViralSpot is strict but thin: what it finds is good, but it doesn't find much. Viral Outliers is wide but loose: it finds a lot, and you sort out what's real.
You ask in words, and the agent picks the search settings for you. Its feed shows only the accounts you track. Every post its search returns has beaten its account. It writes hooks, a script and a caption, all on one plan.
A good fit if you know whose reels to watch and want the writing done. You set the filters yourself, including a follower range. It lists every post that contains your words, viral or not, ranked by its score. It writes one script from a post, with no list of hooks, and it has a public API.
A good fit if you post everywhere or want to build on it.How we tested them
We didn't stop at each tool's website. Our team used both apps the way a creator would, from the inside, in October 2026. Each one was measured the way its own search works.
ViralSpot's search lives inside its agent, so we asked the agent to run each keyword with fixed settings: reels from the last 30 days, by accounts with 1,000 to 100,000 followers. In Viral Outliers, we typed the same kind of keyword list into its search box three times: once in its default view, once limited to Instagram accounts under 100,000 followers, and once to Instagram accounts under 10,000. We kept the top 25 results of each, and ran the same keywords on Aubrium's library. For the writing, both tools got the same five viral reels as six other tools, and AI reviewers, software that reads text and scores it, marked every script blind.

What we found when we tested them
Here's what happened when we used the two side by side, with Aubrium beside them, one question at a time.
Whose reels does each one show you?
Each tool was searched its own way, so read this table one row at a time. The rows aren't one race.
| Tool | How we searched | What came back |
|---|---|---|
| ViralSpot | Its agent, 161 searches for reels from the last 30 days by accounts with 1,000 to 100,000 followers | 39 searches found nothing, and 33 more found three posts or fewer. The same few accounts came up again and again |
| Viral Outliers | Its search box, 147 keywords, in its default view, top 25 | Typical account: 212,433 followers. 69% over 100,000, 15% over a million |
| Viral Outliers | The same 147 keywords, Instagram accounts under 10,000 followers, top 25 | 47 searches found nothing. 41% of the results came from businesses, like a spa, a jeweller and a budgeting app |
| Aubrium | Its whole library | Typical account: 12,816 followers. None over 100,000, two in five posts from accounts under 10,000 |
So both make you work for small accounts. ViralSpot only knows the accounts its users track, and when we asked it to suggest accounts for a creator with about 15,000 followers, the smallest it offered had 1.8 million. Viral Outliers lets you filter down to small accounts, but there aren't many of them in it.
Did their "viral" reels really beat their account?
Here the two split cleanly.
What we found when we checked the numbers
- Yes: ViralSpot: every post its search returned had beaten its account's usual views, by its own score
- No: Viral Outliers: filtered to Instagram accounts under 100,000, 45% of the top results did worse than their creator's usual, by its own score
- Yes: Aubrium: every reel reached far more people than its creator has followers, and the typical one reached 18 times
Viral Outliers doesn't keep only the posts that beat their account. It lists every post that contains your words, sorted by its score, so when there aren't many good ones, weak ones fill the page. ViralSpot only returns posts that beat their account, but it often returns very few.
Aubrium has both: a lot of reels, and every one beat its account. On the same 90 keywords, it had more than 4,000 reels from the last 30 days to ViralSpot's 532. And on 141 of 150 keywords, it had more viral posts from Instagram accounts under 100,000 than Viral Outliers returned for those accounts at all, viral or not.
Does the search find what you typed?
Both tools tripped over the same word. When we searched "cat", ViralSpot read it as catering, and Viral Outliers matched the letters inside "education".
They get there differently. ViralSpot turns your words into its own topic labels, then searches those. Of the results that showed a caption, 63% had none of the words we searched. Its own agent was frank about one batch, saying most of it was content "that the topic filter mislabeled."
Viral Outliers matches letters, so a post shows up if your word appears anywhere in its text. It can also miss posts about your topic that spell it another way: "curly hair routine" found 52 posts across its three platforms, and "#curlyhairroutine" found 349.
Aubrium files each post into every niche it fits, by what the post is about, and its search reads captions and transcripts.
Neither tool shows where a creator is, and neither has a country or language filter. Viral Outliers' home page mentions a language filter, but we didn't find one in the app. Aubrium knows the creator's country for 96% of its posts, across 200 countries, and lets you filter by it.
Whose scripts are better?
Both tools got the same five reels as six other tools that write: a face-wash ranking, a tinted sunscreen launch, a pilates class in a parking lot, a run of baking fails and a coffee cart's first quote. Reviewers scored every script without knowing which tool wrote it.
ViralSpot came third and Viral Outliers sixth. The biggest gap was honesty. The reviewers scored each script out of 5 for sticking to the facts. ViralSpot got a perfect 5. Viral Outliers got 2.8.
The most human-sounding scripts of the eight. Where it didn't know a price or a number, it left a blank and said why: "I left blanks so you don't claim anything that didn't happen." But when we told it the creator's niche, it moved three of the five reels into that niche instead of keeping each reel's topic.
Top marks for not inventing facts. For the tinted sunscreen launch, it swapped the reel's brand for e.l.f. and wrote "Elf just dropped not 10 or 12, but 15 new shades", with "SPF 30". For the face-wash ranking, it moved the reel's scores onto brands the reel never rated. It gave no list of hooks.
Claims about a real brand you'd have to check before you say them on camera. To be fair to Viral Outliers, its scripts kept each reel's format, and every one came with a useful checklist of what to film. ViralSpot's scripts are the safer ones to say on camera, though each took three to four minutes and the blanks need filling before you film.
Is there a better option than both?
If you post on Instagram, yes. Aubrium is a library built only from accounts your size, and it did better than both on finding reels, and on writing.
There are more than 260,000 posts in it today, from more than 190,000 creators. Every account has between 1,000 and 100,000 followers, and every reel reached far more people than its creator has followers. Each post is filed into every one of the 350+ niches it fits, with its hook type, its format and the creator's country.
Aubrium's own database, read 23 October 2026.
The writing held up too. Aubrium came first in both rounds, and no reviewer scored another tool above it, and had the most "best hook of the reel" picks: 8 of 15, to ViralSpot's 2 and Viral Outliers' none. For the sunscreen launch, the reviewers' favourite opener was Aubrium's: "Five shades on one cheek, watch which one disappears." Make my version writes your own script, hooks and a caption from any reel. ViralSpot was more careful with facts, and that's worth knowing.
My Rivals watches accounts like yours and flags the reel that's breaking out against that account's usual, and it all works inside ChatGPT and Claude. What it doesn't do: it's Instagram only for now, it has no public API, and there's no free plan or trial. Plans are $49, $99 or $249 a month, every plan has every tool,7 and a first plan is refunded in full within 15 days.8
Add the accounts you're up against. Aubrium checks their reels and puts the one that's breaking out on top.
Which should you pick?
It comes down to where you post, and what you want the tool to do for you.
| If you… | Pick |
|---|---|
| post on Instagramand want ideas from accounts your size | Aubrium |
| want every resultto be a reel that beat its account, and plenty of them | Aubrium |
| want reels from your own country | Aubrium |
| already know the accountsyou want to watch, and want careful scripts on one plan | ViralSpot |
| post the same videoto TikTok and YouTube too | Viral Outliers |
| want a public APIto build on, or your own follower range | Viral Outliers |
Questions people ask
Is ViralSpot better than Viral Outliers?
For writing, yes. ViralSpot's scripts scored 27.5 out of 35 in our blind test to Viral Outliers' 22.4, and it never made up facts. Viral Outliers is wider, with three platforms, a follower filter and an API.
Which is cheaper, ViralSpot or Viral Outliers?
Do they have a free trial?
Which one works for small accounts?
Neither makes it easy. ViralSpot's searches for accounts with 1,000 to 100,000 followers often came back thin, and Viral Outliers found nothing for 47 of 147 searches once we filtered to accounts under 10,000. Every account in Aubrium has 1,000 to 100,000 followers, so there's no filter to set.
Do they cover TikTok?
Viral Outliers does, along with YouTube. ViralSpot's own guide for AI agents says not to use it for "platforms other than Instagram".9 Aubrium is Instagram only for now.

How we did this
Our team studied both apps hands-on in October 2026, using each one the way a creator would. In ViralSpot, whose search runs inside its agent, the agent ran each keyword for us with fixed settings: reels from the last 30 days, by accounts with 1,000 to 100,000 followers. In Viral Outliers we typed 147 keywords into its search box in three views (its default, Instagram under 100,000 followers, and Instagram under 10,000) and kept the top 25 of each. For every result we saved the account, its followers, the views, the tool's own score and the caption, and we ran the same keywords on Aubrium's library. Because the two tools search in different ways, we report each one's numbers on their own and never in one chart.
The five script reels were the same for every tool that writes. Most tools were also given a short description of the creator they were writing for; Aubrium wasn't. The scripts were scored blind by AI reviewers with one scorecard and no tool names. Prices and terms are from each tool's own site, read on 22 October 2026. Aubrium's numbers come from its own database, read on 23 October 2026. Apps change. If something here is out of date, tell us and we'll fix it and move the date. And yes, Aubrium makes this page.
