The best hooks for air fryer reels, from 500+ that went viral
We read the opening line of every viral air fryer reel in Aubrium's library: which hooks show up most, which travelled furthest, and 16 real ones to learn from.

"My secret to extra crispy homemade chips": that line of text sat on a reel from an account with 24,461 followers, and the reel reached 18.6 million views. It names the food and promises a trick. Nothing else.
In Aubrium's library, the air fryer niche also holds the crockpot and the slow cooker, so chips sit next to pot roast here. We read the opening line of the 500+ viral air fryer reels we hold, from 400+ creators, to see which kinds of hook keep coming back. The wider picture is in the best hooks for Instagram reels, across every niche, and what goes viral in each niche lists the rest.
Curiosity gaps open 19% of viral air fryer reels, more than any other hook, with bold claims next at 16%. Curiosity gaps, bold claims and callouts all reached about 17 times their creator's followers. 64% show the hook as text on screen, 28% only say it, and the middle hook runs 12 words.

What kind of hook works best for air fryer reels?
Curiosity gaps come first, then bold claims, and neither pulled ahead on reach. The middle reel of each sat at 17 times its creator's followers, level with callouts.
Further down the chart the numbers jump, but the groups get tiny. POV hooks reached 42 times and negative hooks 51, from just 9 and 7 reels, so we wouldn't read much into them. Warnings, 23 reels, sat at 24 times. And 16% of these reels have no hook of any type: the middle one of those went 37 times its creator's followers.

How long should an air fryer hook be?
Eight words or fewer, going by how far they travelled. Only 30% are that short, though, and the middle air fryer hook runs 12 words.
The 23 hooks of 1 to 4 words reached 34 times their account's followers, and the 5 to 8 word group 20. Past 20 words the middle reel sat at 11, and 22% of these hooks run that long. A recipe intro read out loud gets wordy fast.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Put it on screen. Text alone opens 45% of viral air fryer reels, and that middle reel went 25 times its creator's followers.
This niche talks more than you'd guess for a niche where 71% of reels never show a face: 28% say the hook with no text, and 19% say it and show it. Those two stopped at 12 and 14 times. The spoken ones have a sound all their own, like "Look how tender this beef is." If you talk, the words on screen are what a muted viewer gets.
How do viral air fryer hooks start?
"You" opens 16 of the 240+ English hooks, "if" 15 and "let's" 13. Then "oh" at 12 and "welcome" at 11, which are words you say out loud, not words you'd type.

How we did this
We looked at every air fryer reel in Aubrium's library on 31 October 2026: 500+ reels from 400+ creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached far more people than its creator has followers.
