How long should a meal prep hook be?
The middle meal prep hook is 12 words, and shorter ones travelled further.
Every step up in length went a little less far, from 18 times followers for one to four words down to 10 past 20 words. And 21% of these hooks run past 20 words. If your first line reads like a recipe step, cut it to the dish and the reason to watch.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it on screen. 32% of meal prep reels open on a spoken hook with no text, but text travelled further.
The middle reel with text alone reached 19 times its creator's followers. Spoken only, it was 12, and the two together 14. In our shortlist, one spoken line turns up on several accounts almost word for word: "Oh. You guys aren't ready for how good this crispy fried fish looks." Each of those reels went viral with it. In this niche as a whole, though, the written line went further.
