What kind of hook works best for pasta reels?
Bold claims and curiosity gaps share the lead, at 17% and 16%. Relatable lines come next, at 11%.
The tease went further than the big three. Transformation teases make up 7% of these reels, and the middle one reached 31× its account's following, against 16× to 19× for bold claims, curiosity gaps and relatable lines. Pasta changes in front of you, from dough to noodle and from pan to plate, and a tease leans on that. Two rarer types show more on the chart: POV hooks at 35× on 24 reels, and number lists at 29× on 20. And 24% of these reels open with no hook of any type. The middle one of those went 30× its following.

How long should a pasta hook be?
Keep it short. The middle pasta hook is 10 words, and the shorter ones went further.
Hooks of one to four words make up just 10% of the 302 we read, and their middle reel reached 28× its creator's followers. "Today, carbonara." is that kind of hook. Anything of 9 words or more lands between 12× and 14×.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. On pasta reels the gap between a written hook and a spoken one is wide.
The middle reel with its hook as text alone reached 30 times its creator's followers. A spoken hook reached 10, and the two together 13. Plenty of pasta cooks still talk: 23% open on a spoken hook with no text, and in our shortlist several are about a cheese pull. Talk if you like. Here, the written line on its own went furthest.

How we did this
We looked at every pasta reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 684 reels from 613 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's pasta niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 302 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
