Transformation teases went further, to 36, and they're the before-and-afters of game dev: "How my lizard horror game looked 6 years ago". How long should an indie game dev hook be?
Longer than you'd think. Hooks of 9 to 12 words went furthest, and the middle hook is 10 words.
That band reached 26 times its creator's followers, against 21 for 5 to 8 words and just 16 for 1 to 4. Many of these hooks spend their words describing the game, and the animal hook at the top of this page sits right in that band. Past 12 words the multiple drops to 14, then sits at 19 past 20 words. Only 35% of indie dev hooks are 8 words or under.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. Text with no voice opens 47% of these reels, and it travelled furthest.
Text alone reached 29 times its creator's followers for the middle reel. Text read aloud reached 20, and a voice alone 18. A voice alone opens 26% of these reels, and text read aloud 16%, so narrating is common. The written line is still the one that went furthest.
How do viral indie game dev hooks start?
With "I", 22 times, then "this" at 15, "how" at 14 and "in" at 13, as in "In our game". "Day" opens 9 hooks: devlogs that count the days.
