How long should a business coaching hook be?
Long, and length shows no clear pattern. The middle hook is 13 words, and only 21% keep to 8 or fewer.
Hooks of 9 to 12 words and those past 20 words both reached 15×, while 5 to 8 words stopped at 9× and 13 to 20 at 8×. The shortest, 1 to 4 words, show 48×, but only 9 reels use one. A coaching hook often makes its whole point in one sentence, like "You must be on fire first in order to get a burnout."
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. Saying it while it's on screen is the habit, at 49%, but text alone went further.
The 37% with silent text reached 17× for the middle reel. A voice alone, 14%, reached 14×, and text read aloud just 10×. In a niche where 66% of reels have someone talking to camera, the line that travelled furthest was one you read.

How we did this
We looked at every business coaching reel in Aubrium's library on 31 October 2026: 400+ reels from 300+ creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached far more people than its creator has followers. Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 260+ reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
