How to go viral in the fragrance niche on Instagram
What 700+ viral fragrance reels have in common: what they show, how they start, what they sound like, and who posts them. Real numbers from Aubrium's library.

Rank a pile of budget perfumes, sort them into a tier list, post it. That reel came from an account with 2,476 followers and was watched 5.1 million times. Its caption barely bothers with words: "Tier list...." and a hashtag for budget perfume.
Lists like that are the biggest format in fragrance, 34% of the 700+ viral reels in Aubrium's library. 120+ topped a million views, and the middle reel, by follower count, sits on an account of 12,190. This page walks through what those reels have in common, from the format to the sound. For every niche at once, see what kind of reels go viral; the niche-by-niche overview lists the others.
Viral fragrance reels lean on lists, 34% of them, and on talking: 47% have someone speaking to camera, and 61% use their own sound. Slideshows went furthest, with the middle one at 35 times its account's followers. Just under half, 45%, show no face. Text appears on 91%, and 43% were posted by accounts below 10,000 followers.

What kind of fragrance reels go viral?
Lists, at 34%: tier lists, top fives, the best scents for men. Tutorials come next, at 20%, often on how to spray it.
Slideshows went furthest. There are only 40 of them, 6% of the total, but the middle one hit 35×, well clear of montages at 25×. Lists, for all their numbers, sat at 11×, and talking heads at 7×, the lowest on the chart. Lists get made the most; slideshows got the furthest.
Do you need to show your face?
No, and the faceless ones went further. 55% show a face and 45% never do, with 32% showing no one at all. The middle faceless reel hit 22×; the middle one with a face, 9×. Even so, 47% have someone talking to camera, so the face-on reviewer is common here, just not the one that travelled furthest.
Should fragrance reels have text on screen?
Yes, nearly all of them: 91% carry text, and 79% keep it to a line or two. Reach sat level whatever the amount. A line, a paragraph or nothing at all, the middle reel of each group landed between 12× and 14×.
Trending song or your own sound?
Their own sound, at 61%, which fits a niche where 47% talk to camera. A song is 34%, close to the library's usual 37%. Songs and voices finished level, 14× and 12×. Borrowing another creator's audio is rare here, 5%, and those 34 reels went furthest at 23×.
What hooks work for fragrance reels?
Curiosity gaps lead, on 21% of these reels, then bold claims at 16%. Relatable lines went furthest of the bigger groups, with their middle reel at 21×, often a collector's joke like "A different type of alcoholic". POV hooks show 40×, but only 16 reels use one. 15% carry no hook of any type. A typical hook runs 10 words, and the shortest, 1 to 4 words, also reached 21×. Six of them, word for word:

How we did this
We looked at every fragrance reel in Aubrium's library on 31 October 2026: 700+ reels from 500+ creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached far more people than its creator has followers. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's fragrance niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Format, faces, text, sound and hooks are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
