How to go viral in the web design niche on Instagram
What 500+ viral web design reels have in common: what they show, how they start, what they sound like, and who posts them. Real numbers from Aubrium's library.

A client asks for a simple website. That's the whole setup of a skit with 4 million views, from a web design account with 43,301 followers. The line on screen quotes the client, "Don't overdo it on my website, keep it simple.", then cuts to "Me:". The caption just says "Scroll responsibly".
Skits like that one are only 8% of the 500+ viral web design reels in Aubrium's library, yet they went further than any other format. This page walks through what these 500+ share: what they film, whether a face appears, the words on screen, the audio and who posts them. For the bigger picture, see which kinds of reels go viral across Instagram, and this list of every niche we looked at has the others.
Tutorials lead viral web design reels, at 31%, but skits travelled furthest: the middle one hit 36 times its creator's follower count. 54% never show a face, 97% put text on screen and 53% use their own sound. Reels shot plainly on a phone beat the polished ones, 21 times followers against 12.

What kind of web design reels go viral?
Tutorials, at 31%. Nothing else comes close: lists, screen recordings, slideshows, talking heads and skits each sit at 8% or 9%.
Skits are where the reach is. There are 43 of them, and the middle one reached 36 times its creator's followers, against 14 for a tutorial. Stories came next, at 21. Talking heads travelled least of the big formats, at 9. So how-tos fill the niche, and skits go further.
Do you need to show your face?
No. 54% of viral web design reels leave the face out, and 41% have no person on screen at all. Faceless reels and reels with a face travelled about as far, 15× and 13× their creator's followers. Talking straight to camera is less common: 27% of these reels have someone doing it, and they reached 13×.
Should web design reels have text on screen?
Almost always. 97% carry text on screen. 68% keep it to a line or two and 29% use a lot, and the two reached about the same, 14 and 15 times their creator's followers. Only 19 reels have no text at all, too few to read anything into.
Trending song or your own sound?
Their own sound, more often than not: 53% use it, against 41% with a song. That 41% is still above the 37% across the whole library. A small group, 5%, borrowed another creator's sound, and those 30 reels reached 18 times their creator's followers, against 15 for songs and 14 for their own sound.
What hooks work for web design reels?
Curiosity gaps and bold claims open the most, at 20% and 19%, and 11% have no hook of any type. The middle hook is 9 words, and 77% of these reels put it on screen as text. Relatable lines are rare, at 6%, but they reached 36 times their creator's followers. Six that went out on viral web design reels:

Can a small web design account go viral?
Yes. 45% of the viral web design reels we found came from accounts under 10,000 followers. And the smaller the account, the bigger the jump: a reel from an account below 2,000 followers reached 66× its following in the middle, one from 2,000 to 5,000 followers 30×. Up at 50,000 to 100,000 followers, it was 8×.
