We read the opening lines of 1,035 viral try-on hauls in Aubrium's library, from 826 creators, and sorted them by type, length and the way they're delivered. The hooks that work in every niche is the wider version of this page, and what goes viral in each niche covers the rest.
Curiosity gaps lead on viral try-on haul reels, at 23%, then callouts and transformation teases. The common types travelled about as far as each other, 9 to 12 times the account's followers, while rare POV hooks reached 36. 81% write the hook on screen, and the typical one is 9 words.

What kind of hook works best for try-on haul reels?
Curiosity gaps, by a clear margin. 23% of viral try-on haul reels open with one.
Callouts here often name a shop, as in "New in Swim at Target". Callouts and bold claims reached 12 times followers, a little further than curiosity gaps at 9, and every type on 4% or more of reels sat between 9 and 12. POV hooks are almost absent, just 13 reels, yet their middle one reached 36 times. And the 16% with no hook of any type reached 17.

How long should a try-on haul hook be?
Short. The middle hook is 9 words, and hooks up to 12 words travelled about as far as each other, 11 to 14 times followers.
Long intros lose ground. Past 20 words, the middle reel reached only 6 times, and 16% of these hooks run that long. 46% of these hooks are 8 words or fewer.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. 81% put the hook on screen, and text on its own travelled furthest.
With text alone, the middle reel reached 15 times its followers. With a voice on top, it was 8, and a hook that's only spoken reached 9. 37% have someone talking to camera, but the line that opens the reel is usually written.
How do viral try-on haul hooks start?

We looked at every try-on haul reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 1,035 reels from 826 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's try-on haul niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 446 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
