The best Runwave AI alternatives for finding viral reels (2026)
Runwave AI writes well, but it keeps no reels of its own. Here are seven alternatives our team tested hands-on, ours included: which ones have a library, whose reels they show, and whose scripts and hooks win.

Runwave AI makes a promise a lot of small creators like. Its home page says it's for people who post about AI tools or automation and are "somewhere between your first post and 10k followers".1 You give it accounts and a few keywords, it pulls their reels live, and then it helps you write your own version, one beat at a time.2
The writing side is good. The finding side is where people get stuck. Runwave keeps no reels of its own, and its own site says so.3 Every search depends on an outside data source answering when you ask.
When our team tested it in October 2026, that source was out of credits, and every search came back empty. That may well work on another day. But it's the kind of day that sends people looking for a tool with a library of its own.
This guide covers seven alternatives. Our team studied each app hands-on, Runwave included, with the same searches and the same five reels in each. We make Aubrium, one of the seven, so read with that in mind. We've also put the two side by side on their own page.
If you're leaving Runwave AI, Aubrium is the best pick for most Instagram creators. It's a library of viral reels from accounts with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, there whenever you open it, and its scripts came first in our blind test, where Runwave's came last. If you post the same video to TikTok and Shorts, Virlo is the closest swap.
What does Runwave AI do well?
More than its search results would suggest. Its writing tools are some of the most thoughtful we tested.
Script Studio
It builds a script one beat at a time: the hook, the proof, your take and the close. Each beat has named styles to pick from, and a running check on length.
Edits you approve
Ask it to tighten a line and it shows the change word by word, so you can accept or reject it. It ends with a caption, hashtags and a shot list.
An honest grader
Its script score says plainly what it can't know: "Not a prediction of views or retention, which nothing here observes."
Angles
It takes the idea behind any reel, even one from another niche, and turns it into angles for yours.
It also has an MCP server, a plug that lets an AI app like Claude use a tool.2 And its price is flat: "No per-video charges, ever."1 Starter is $19 a month after a $5 first month, and Pro is $39.1
Why do people look for a Runwave AI alternative?
Mostly because of how it finds reels. Runwave is open about it:
“there is no pre-built catalogue to browse, so if you want to type a topic and scroll thirty proven videos immediately, Sandcastles still does that better.”
Here's what that, and a few other things, looked like in our tests.
No reels on the day we tested
Its data provider was out of credits, and all twelve of our attempts, across six features, came back empty.
Messages that pointed at us
The app suggested we try other keywords, or said our daily limit was used up while its own meter read zero. The failed tries still counted against the day's refreshes.
Hooks that missed the reel
About one in four of its AI requests came back "model busy", its way of saying the AI couldn't answer. When a breakdown came back incomplete, its hook writer got nothing about the reel, so a face-wash ranking got hooks about side hustles.
Scripts that copy the source
Every script opened with the original reel's first line, nearly word for word.
A small monthly allowance
Starter has 10 script adaptations a month.1 In our tests, scoring a draft and using Angles each used one too, and ours were gone in under an hour.
One kind of creator
It has no filter for follower count, country, language or format. And it says it's built for people who post about AI tools and automation.1
None of this makes Runwave's writing bad. But a writing tool needs reels to write from, and finding them is the part that let us down.
What to look for in a Runwave AI alternative
Before we get to the tools, here's the checklist we used. Most lines are one of the reasons above, turned around.
What a good Runwave AI alternative gets right
- Yes: It keeps a library of its own, so search works every day
- Yes: It shows reels from accounts your size, not mostly famous ones
- Yes: Its "viral" score never calls a hit a flop
- Yes: You can see where creators are, and filter by country
- Yes: Its hooks are about the reel you picked
- Yes: If it writes scripts, they're yours, not the source creator's words
If you post about AI tools, add one more line: it has plenty of reels from your niche.
How we tested them
We didn't stop at each tool's website. Our team used each app the way a creator would, from the inside, Runwave included.
We ran more than 1,300 searches across the tools that have a search box, with the same keywords in each, and kept every result. For each one we noted who posted it, how many followers they had, how the reel did, and whether it matched what we searched for. We ran the same keywords on Aubrium's library. In Runwave, we tried every way it finds reels: following accounts, its keyword feed, pasting a link, its suggested creators and its strategy tools. When it couldn't fetch any, we imported reels from Aubrium's library into it, so we could still test its breakdowns and its writing.
For the writing, every tool that writes got the same five viral reels: a face-wash ranking, a tinted sunscreen launch, a pilates class in a parking lot, a run of baking fails and a coffee cart's first quote. The scripts were scored blind by AI reviewers, software that reads text and scores it, with one scorecard and no tool names, in two rounds.
Runwave AI alternatives at a glance
Here's how the seven rank once you put them through all of that. On the same tests, Runwave itself would come last. The full reviews follow, then the numbers behind the ranking.

The seven alternatives, one by one
1. Aubrium
LibraryFrom $49/moBest for: A library of viral reels that's there whenever you open it
Aubrium is what Runwave says it isn't: a library you can browse. It holds Instagram reels and posts that reached far more people than their creators have followers, all from accounts with 1,000 to 100,000 followers. Browsing doesn't wait on a fetch. The reels are already there, and already read.
There are more than 260,000 posts in it today, from more than 190,000 creators, and more than 3,700 arrived in the last week. Each post is filed into every one of the 350+ niches it fits, with its hook type, its format and, on 96% of posts, the creator's country. That includes more than 700 viral posts that mention ChatGPT and more than 600 that mention automation.
Make my version writes your own script, hooks and a caption from any reel. My Rivals follows accounts like yours and flags the reel that's breaking out against that account's usual. Like Runwave, it works inside Claude, and inside ChatGPT too.6

2. Virlo
AI search + research agentsFrom $49/moBest for: Teams who want alerts across TikTok, Reels and Shorts
Virlo is the closest swap if you want to keep three platforms. Unlike Runwave, it has a video library of its own, and you search it by chatting with its assistant. Research agents collect videos on a topic and send alerts when something takes off.7 It covers TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, and Pro comes with 3 team seats.8
Its writing came second in our blind test, close behind Aubrium, and it's careful not to make things up.
Finding Instagram reels is its weak side. Instagram is a small share of what it holds. Its search matches an AI summary of each video rather than the words in it, so half the results we got didn't have the keyword in the caption. It also can't read a reel from a link unless that reel is already in its library.
- Pricing
- $49 or $199 a month ($34 or $139 billed yearly). Enterprise from $499.8
- Trial
- 7 days. No refunds after it.
- Platforms

- Strong, careful script writing
- Its own video library, with alerts and team seats
- Three platforms
- Half of search results missed the keyword
- Region shown on 4% of Instagram results
- Can't read a reel by link unless it's in its library
3. ViralSpot
AI agent + watchlistFrom $25/moBest for: Unlimited human-sounding scripts at one low price
ViralSpot is the closest to Runwave in spirit. You talk to an AI agent, and it finds reels, breaks them down and writes scripts. Its scripts sounded the most human in our test, and where it doesn't know a fact, it leaves a blank for you instead of guessing. One plan includes everything, with unlimited credits, so there's no monthly allowance to run out of.9
Its reels come mostly from a watchlist, like Runwave's. Its outliers come only from accounts you track, up to 20, and each slot locks for three days once you fill it. Its wider index is built from what its own users track, so it's thin on many topics. And when told the creator's niche, it moved three of our five reels into that niche instead of keeping the reel's topic.
- Pricing
- $25 a month, or $20 a month billed yearly9
- Trial
- No trial. A full refund within 14 days of the first payment.
- Platforms
- vs Runwave AI
- Unlimited credits, and scripts that never invent
- Natural, human-sounding scripts
- Never invents facts
- One plan, unlimited credits
- Outliers only from your 20-account watchlist
- Thin results on many topics
- No country filter, and Instagram only
4. CreatorHouse
WatchlistFrom $39/moBest for: Transcripts of accounts you already follow
CreatorHouse follows the accounts you choose, like Runwave, on Instagram and TikTok, and refreshes their posts every day.10 Open a video and it reads it in one go: what's said, the words on screen, and each beat with a timestamp and a short clip. Its chat turns the video into a script, and its hooks were the most usable in our test: the reviewers would use 68% of them, against Runwave's 3%.
There's no search, though, and its suggested accounts lean very famous: across its 19 niche lists, the typical one had 3.8 million followers. Its scripts added details that weren't in the reel, like a six-hour sunscreen wear test. And in our tests, once we tracked about 40 accounts, its feed stopped loading.
- Pricing
- $39 a month, $97 a year, or $14.99 a week11
- Trial
- 3 days. Refunds case by case.12
- Platforms
- Instagram, TikTok
- vs Runwave AI
- Hooks that fit the reel, and a clip of every beat
- Strong hooks
- A beat-by-beat read, with a clip of each moment
- A weekly plan for short projects
- No search
- Suggests famous accounts
- Scripts add details that weren't in the reel
5. Octupie
Account search + picked feedFrom $29/moBest for: Research done for you, on accounts it picks
Octupie is for people who'd rather not name the accounts at all. You tell it your niche, and it picks accounts in it, watches them for you, and flags the reels that break out.13 It writes lots of hooks, around 40 a reel, and scripts in your language.
It's kind on money: 7 days with no card, then a full refund within 14 days of any payment, renewals included.14, 15
The trade-off is what you see. It can't search posts, only accounts by their name and bio, and the accounts it returned had a typical 224,000 followers. About a third of its hooks fit the reel well enough to use, and its scripts were short.
- Pricing
- $29 or $49 a month ($23 or $39 billed yearly)14
- Trial
- 7 days, no card
- Platforms
- vs Runwave AI
- The tool picks the accounts, and every payment can be refunded
- Almost no set-up
- Lots of hooks
- A refund on every payment
- No search for posts
- Mostly big accounts
- Instagram only
6. Viral Outliers
Text search, three platformsFrom $17/moBest for: Builders who want an API
Viral Outliers has what Runwave lacks: its own database of posts, searchable any time, across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. It scores each post against its account's usual, lets you set a follower filter, and every plan includes an API and an MCP connector.16, 17
Its search is where it slips. It matches any text that contains your letters, so a search for "cat" pulled in posts about "education". Its default results lean heavily towards big accounts: the typical one had 212,433 followers. Filtered to Instagram accounts under 100,000, 45% of its results did worse than their creator's usual. And its script writer put a real brand on facts that weren't in the reel.
- Pricing
- $17, $37 or $149 a month17
- Trial
- 7 days, with a card16
- Platforms
- Instagram, TikTok, YouTube
- vs Runwave AI
- A post database on three platforms, for less
- Searches its own posts on three platforms
- A follower filter, an API and MCP
- A low entry price
- Loose text matching
- Big accounts by default
- Scripts add claims about real brands
7. Sandcastles
Watchlist + global searchFrom $49/moBest for: Posting the same video on three platforms
Sandcastles is the tool Runwave's own site points to for browsing: if you want to type a topic and scroll proven videos straight away, it says Sandcastles does that better.3 It covers Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts in one watchlist, and on Pro and up, a global search looks across the channels its customers have added.18, 19 Its write-up of a single video reads well.
Its search leans towards big accounts, and a lot of what it finds is old. In the same 147 searches, the typical account in its top results had 125,849 followers, against Aubrium's 5,607, and 24% of its top results were posted before 2024. Reading a video's breakdown costs a credit each time. Its scripts lost the most points in our test for adding statistics nobody can back up.
- Trial
- No free plan. No refunds from Pro up.
- Platforms
- Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts
- vs Runwave AI
- A global search over channels it already holds
- Three platforms
- A global search on Pro and up
- Good single-video write-ups
- Mostly big and older reels
- A credit for each breakdown
- Scripts add made-up statistics
The numbers behind the ranking
If you want the detail, here it is. Each part puts Runwave first, so you can see what you'd be swapping.
Did it find any reels?
Not on the day we tested. Runwave returned no reels from twelve attempts across six features, because its data provider was out of credits. We can only report what we saw, and it may work on another day.
Aubrium's library was there the whole time. We ran 20 AI and automation searches on it, and every one returned posts. Here are a few of the keywords Runwave is built for:
| Keyword | Viral posts in Aubrium | Typical account | Typical reach |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | 700+ | 14,484 followers | 19.3 times its followers |
| Automation | 600+ | 13,359 followers | 19.4 times its followers |
| AI tools | 380+ | 18,147 followers | 20.2 times its followers |
| AI agent | 150+ | 14,802 followers | 16.0 times its followers |
| n8n | 70+ | 14,889 followers | 12.4 times its followers |
Each row counts posts whose caption has the keyword, all from accounts with 1,000 to 100,000 followers. Many of them come from India: for "ai tools", 62% of the posts were from creators in India and 11% from the US. That's what the country filter is for.
Whose reels do they show you?
We couldn't measure Runwave here, because no reels came back. By design, it shows the accounts you track plus whatever a keyword search turns up that day, with no filter for follower count.
For the other tools, we ran the same keywords and looked at the accounts behind the top results, the way each one's own search works:
| Tool | The accounts it puts in front of you |
|---|---|
| Aubrium | Typical account: 5,607 followers. None over 100,000, two in three under 10,000 |
| Sandcastles | Typical account: 125,849 followers. 58% over 100,000, 9% over a million |
| Viral Outliers | Default view, typical account: 212,433 followers. 69% over 100,000 |
| Octupie | Its search returns accounts, typically 224,000 followers. 18% over a million |
| CreatorHouse | No search. Its suggested accounts had a median of 3.8 million followers |
Age matters too. In Sandcastles, 24% of the top results were posted before 2024. In Aubrium, 4% were.
Every reel here comes from an account with 1,000 to 100,000 followers. When a small account gets millions of views, the idea did the work.
Can you trust the viral score?
Runwave scores a reel against the creator's usual views, which is a fair way to spot a hit. A few things got in the way in our tests, and other tools had problems of their own:
What we found when we checked the numbers
- No: Runwave AI: reels it had no baseline for were marked "F" and "Flopped", including one with 30 million views from an account with about 2,100 followers
- No: Runwave AI: keyword results from Instagram came without view counts, so it estimates views from likes
- No: CreatorHouse: a reel with 6.8 million views showed "1.0× reach", because it was its creator's only post in the window
- No: Viral Outliers: filtered to Instagram accounts under 100,000, 45% of results did worse than their creator's usual
- No: Sandcastles: 7% of its "outlier" scores were broken, with the score equal to the view count
- Yes: Aubrium: every reel reached far more people than its creator has followers. The typical one reached 18 times its creator's followers
Does the search find what you typed?
Aubrium files every post into each of its 350+ niches by what it's about, and its search reads captions and transcripts. The others match in different ways:
| Tool | What its search really matches | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Runwave AI | Up to 3 keywords, fetched live each time | Nothing came back in our tests |
| Aubrium | Captions, transcripts and posts filed by topic | Posts for every one of our AI and automation searches |
| ViralSpot | Its own topic labels, from accounts its users track | 63% of results had none of our words |
| Virlo | An AI summary of each video | Half the results didn't have the keyword |
| Viral Outliers | Any text containing your letters | "Cat" matched "education" |
| Octupie | Account names and bios | 41% of accounts were on topic |
| CreatorHouse | Nothing; there's no search | You type each account in yourself |
Country is part of this too. Runwave shows no country and has no country filter. Aubrium knows the creator's country for 96% of its posts, across 200 countries, and lets you filter by it. Octupie, ViralSpot, Viral Outliers and CreatorHouse show no country either, Sandcastles has no country filter, and Virlo had a region on 4% of its Instagram results.
Niche not in the library? Type it. Aubrium runs the searches and keeps only the reels that beat their creator's usual numbers.
Whose scripts are best?
Every tool that writes got the same five reels, and the reviewers scored the results without knowing which tool wrote them.
Runwave came last of the eight. Part of that is a plan limit: Starter's 10 script adaptations ran out on our fifth reel, so that one was scored without a script. On the four reels it did write, it averaged 21.4 out of 35, still behind every tool but Sandcastles.
Its scripts also stayed too close to the source. Each one opened with the original reel's first line, nearly word for word, and the pilates script retold the creator's own story as if it were yours.
Do the hooks fit the reel?
This is where the gap was widest. The reviewers scored every tool's hooks on how likely they were to stop someone scrolling.
The reviewers rated 3% of Runwave's hooks usable. CreatorHouse's were the most usable, at 68%, then Virlo's at 62% and Aubrium's at 53%. The cause on Runwave's side was simple: when a reel's breakdown came back incomplete, its hook writer was sent nothing about the reel.
For a ranking of face washes, hooks about side hustles and $10K months. For a pilates class in a parking lot, hooks about confidence.
3% of its hooks rated usable. For the sunscreen launch, all three reviewers' favourite opener: "Five shades on one cheek, watch which one disappears." It kept each reel's own story and added 23 hooks and a caption.

Questions people ask
What is the best Runwave AI alternative?
For most Instagram creators, Aubrium. It's a library of viral reels from accounts with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, ready whenever you open it, and its scripts scored highest in our blind test, where Runwave's scored lowest. To keep TikTok and Shorts, Virlo came closest.
Does Runwave AI have a library of viral reels?
No. It fetches reels live from the accounts and keywords you give it, and says itself that "there is no pre-built catalogue to browse".3 In our tests its data provider was out of credits, so those fetches came back empty.
Is there a Runwave AI alternative for AI and automation creators?
Yes. Aubrium isn't built for one kind of creator, but our searches found more than 700 viral posts mentioning ChatGPT and more than 600 mentioning automation, all from accounts with 1,000 to 100,000 followers.
Which alternatives cover TikTok and YouTube Shorts?
Virlo, Sandcastles and Viral Outliers cover all three, and CreatorHouse covers Instagram and TikTok. Aubrium, ViralSpot and Octupie are Instagram only.
Do any alternatives have a free trial?
None of the seven has a free plan. Octupie gives 7 days with no card. Virlo and Viral Outliers give 7 days too, and Viral Outliers asks for a card. CreatorHouse gives 3 days. Aubrium has no trial, but it refunds a first plan in full within 15 days.5 Runwave's own way in is a $5 first month on Starter.1
Does Runwave AI work for carousels?
No. Its own site lists carousels among the formats it "doesn't touch at all".21 Aubrium's library holds carousels and photos as well as reels, and it writes carousels for you too.

How we did this
Our team studied each app hands-on in October 2026, using it the way a creator would, Runwave included. We ran more than 1,300 searches across the tools that have one, with the same keyword list in each, and saved every result: the account, its followers, the views, the tool's own score and the caption. We ran the same keywords on Aubrium's library. In Runwave we tried every way it finds reels, and imported reels from Aubrium's library when it couldn't fetch any. The five script reels were the same for every tool. Where a plan capped a step, we used what it allowed and counted only what it produced.
The scripts were scored blind by AI reviewers with one scorecard and no tool names, in two rounds of three. Prices, trials and refund terms are from each tool's own site, read on 22 October 2026. Aubrium's numbers come from its own database, read on 23 October 2026. Prices and apps change. If something here is out of date, tell us and we'll fix it and move the date. And yes, Aubrium makes this page.
