Transformation teases open 22% of viral acne reels, more than any other kind, then relatable lines at 16% and questions at 15%. Relatable lines reached 24 times their account's followers; POV hooks went 39, but only 22 reels use one. Just 4% have no hook of any type, and 87% put the hook on screen.

What kind of hook works best for acne reels?
Transformation teases, on 22% of these reels: a before shot and the hint of an after. Relatable lines follow at 16% and questions at 15%.
Relatable lines travelled further than the teases, 24 times their account's followers for the middle reel against 15. POV hooks went 39, but there are just 22 of them. Questions and bold claims were among the shortest travellers, at 12 and 9. And almost every acne reel opens on something: only 4% have no hook of any type.

Tiny. Hooks of 1 to 4 words travelled furthest, far ahead of every longer band.
Those short ones are 17% of the set, and their middle reel reached 34 times its account's followers. From 5 to 12 words it sat at 15, and at 13 to 20 words it fell to 8. The middle acne hook is 10 words, and 44% run 8 words or fewer. "Let me see y'all" and "beauty is discipline." both fit.
Should you say the hook or show it?
On screen, and nearly all of them do it. 87% of viral acne reels show the hook as text, and 60% show it with no voice at all.
Text alone travelled furthest: 22 times the account's followers for the middle reel. Text read aloud as well reached 10, and a voice with no text 12. Acne creators talk to camera a lot, in 39% of reels, but the hook still tends to sit on screen.
How do viral acne hooks start?
"I" leads, on 18 hooks, then "if" on 14. "If" names a skin type the viewer might recognise, as in "If you have textured skin like this...". "The" and "this" follow at 11 each.

We looked at every acne reel in Aubrium's library on 31 October 2026: 500+ reels from 400+ creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached far more people than its creator has followers. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's acne niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 260+ reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
