We read the opening line of every viral esthetician reel in Aubrium's library: which hooks show up most, which travelled furthest, and 15 real ones to learn from.

Pick a target, then tease it a little. "For the men that think 3-in-1 shampoo is skincare" sat on top of a reel from an esthetician with 4,874 followers, and it drew 2.5 million views.
Skin pros often write hooks about the job itself: the wax room, the client who cancels, the first year on the job. Relatable lines open 22% of the 500+ viral esthetician reels in Aubrium's library, more than any other kind. Those reels come from 400+ creators, and we went through how each one opens and how far it carried. Our guide to reel hooks across every niche does the same for the rest of Instagram, and the niche-by-niche index links them all.
In esthetics, the hook you'll see most is a relatable line, on 22% of viral reels, then the curiosity gap at 16%. POV hooks are just 6%, yet they went furthest, a middle reel at 34 times its account's following. Text carries the hook on 83%, and a typical one runs 10 words.

What kind of hook works best for esthetician reels?
Look to the POV line. It's on only 6% of these reels and went furthest of all, while the relatable line is the biggest group, at 22%, and carried well too.
The middle POV reel got 34 times its account's following, ahead of relatable lines at 29 and transformation teases at 27. Many of those relatable lines star a client, like "When your client watches you the entire wax". Questions are common here, at 10%, yet the middle one stopped at 12. Callouts and aspirational lines sat lowest, both at 9. Then there's the 14% with no hook of any type, whose middle reel got 24×.

How long should an esthetician hook be?
A bit longer than you'd think. A typical esthetician hook has 10 words, and the 9 to 12 word group went furthest.
Hooks of 9 to 12 words got 23× for the middle reel, against 19 for 5 to 8 words. The shortest ones, 1 to 4 words, stopped at 11, and past 20 words it was 13. Only 38% of these hooks keep to 8 words or fewer. A lot of the longer ones set up a scene before the payoff, like "My client used to book 4 restaurants for one night...& only turn up to one 👀".
Should you say the hook or show it?
Write it. Silent on-screen text opens 62% of these reels; another 21% show the words while saying them.
Voice-only hooks are rare, at 8%, and those reels landed close to the silent ones: 24× for the middle one, against 22. Text that's also read out loud trailed well behind, at 12. So silent text is the habit here, and a lone voice holds its own when someone uses it.
How do viral esthetician hooks start?
"When" leads, opening 23 hooks, then "POV" at 17 and "I" at 14. Plenty of the "when" hooks drop you into a moment with a client.
