The best hooks for lash tech reels, from 900 that went viral
We read the opening line of every viral lash tech reel in Aubrium's library: which hooks show up most, which travelled furthest, and 16 real ones to learn from.
"Me at 66 years old with eyelash extentions because I can't live without them". That was the whole hook, on an account with 1,274 followers. The reel got 6.6 million views.
Lash techs film a short list of things: fills, lifts, lash maps, brows, and their clients. With the work looking alike from studio to studio, the first line has to set one reel apart. We pulled that first line from every one of the 900 viral lash tech reels in Aubrium's library, 741 creators in all, and grouped the fills, lifts and client stories by the kind of hook they open with. Lash tech is one of many niches on our page of the best hooks for Instagram reels, and what goes viral in each niche lists every niche we looked at.
The three most common hooks on viral lash tech reels are transformation teases, curiosity gaps and relatable lines. Relatable lines travelled furthest: the middle one reached 36 times its creator's followers. 60% show the hook as text on screen, the middle hook runs 8 words, and 30% have no real hook at all.

What kind of hook works best for lash tech reels?
Relatable lines went furthest, though transformation teases are the kind you'll see most.
The tease is this niche's home ground. Name the result, then make people wait for it: "STRAIGHT BROWS TO ARCHED BROWS". 15% of these reels open on one, yet the middle tease reached 18 times its creator's followers, lower than any other kind on the chart. Relatable lines open 10% of them, like a client walking in with lashes that need rescuing, and the middle one went 36 times. Then there's the 30% with no hook of any type. They open straight on the work, and the middle one of those reached 54 times, further than any hook type.

How long should a lash tech hook be?
About 8 words is the middle. The 5–8 word band went furthest, but the bars don't fall in a clean line.
Its middle hook reached 40 times followers. The longest hooks, 21 words and up, reached 33, ahead of the shortest at 27, so shorter isn't simply better here. Write the line your reveal needs, then stop.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. 53% of viral lash tech reels put the hook on screen as text alone, and those went furthest.
The middle text-only reel reached 30 times its creator's followers. Spoken hooks reached 14, and text with a voice over it 17. Lash work is close-up, so a line of text can sit right over the eye and still read with the sound off.

How we did this
We looked at every lash tech reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 900 reels from 741 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views.
