We read the opening line of every viral Etsy seller reel in Aubrium's library: which hooks show up most, which travelled furthest, and 16 real ones to learn from.
An account with 2,247 followers posted a reel that opened on a small disaster: "There's a KNOT in my yarn... 😡". It got 4.6 million views.
Etsy sellers film the making and the shipping: crochet, candles, charms, orders going out the door. 75% of their viral reels never show a face, so the hook does the introducing. We pulled the first line from each of the 915 viral Etsy seller reels in Aubrium's library, from 813 creators, then counted the kinds and how far each one got. The same count for every niche lives on the best hooks for Instagram reels. What goes viral in each niche lists them all.
Relatable lines on viral Etsy seller reels reached 41 times their creator's followers for the middle reel, beaten only by warnings, 51, from just 14 reels. Curiosity gaps open the most of these reels, 16%. 65% put the hook on screen, the middle hook runs about 8 words, and 31% don't use a hook at all.

What kind of hook works best for Etsy seller reels?
Curiosity gaps turn up most. Relatable lines went further than every kind but warnings, which are rare.
An Etsy curiosity gap can be just a peek at the work, like "crocheting a dino 💛". It opens 16% of these reels, and the middle one reached 19 times followers. Relatable lines open 10%, drawn from the seller's own week, slow sales days included, and they reached 41. Warnings went further still on the chart, at 51, but there are only 14 of them. And 31% open with no hook, straight into the making. The middle one of those reached 29.

About 8 words, and the 5–8 word range did best.
For hooks in that band, 39% of them, the middle reel reached 22 times its creator's followers. The very shortest, 1–4 words, reached only 14, the same as hooks past 20 words. So not too short. Name the thing you made, then give people a reason to watch it come together.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Write it. On 54% of viral Etsy seller reels the hook is text and nothing else, and that version went furthest.
With text alone, the middle reel reached 28 times its creator's followers. Spoken hooks got 21, and hooks both said and written 14. When most of these reels never show a face, a written line is the seller's voice.

We looked at every Etsy seller reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 915 reels from 813 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's Etsy seller niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 334 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
