We read the first line on all 1,963 viral small business reels in Aubrium's library, from 1,772 creators, to find which hooks they share. On viral small business reels, the relatable line wins twice over. It's the most common hook, at 18%, and it travelled furthest: 32 times followers for the middle reel. Bold claims, curiosity gaps and questions follow at 12% to 13%. 76% put the hook on screen as text, and half run 11 words or fewer.

What kind of hook works best for small business reels?
The relatable line, on 18% of them. For once, the most common hook is also the one that went furthest.
Its middle reel went 32 times the account's followers. POV hooks came next at 23. Bold claims, curiosity gaps and questions all landed between 15 and 17. 11% skip the hook entirely and still went 23 times.

Up to 8 words. The middle hook is 11 words long, yet hooks of 5 to 8 words went furthest at the middle.
Their middle reel reached 23 times followers. Hooks of 9 to 20 words sat at 16 to 17, and past 20 words the middle reel went 11. The very shortest, 1 to 4 words, reached 16: a label like "Nail technician" can work, but a short scene tends to go further.
Should you say the hook or show it?

We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's small business niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 1,058 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
