Skincare reels are routines, steps and products on a face, and the hooks lean on order and method: the correct order, the right direction, a cheat sheet. We read the opening line of all 1,065 viral skincare reels in Aubrium's library, from 889 creators, to see which kinds of hook show up most and how far each went. Transformation teases open 15% of viral skincare reels, more than any other hook, with curiosity gaps and relatable lines close behind. Curiosity gaps and POV hooks went furthest, about level at 24 and 23 times their creator's followers for the middle one. 83% show the hook as text on screen, and the middle hook runs 8 words.

What kind of hook works best for skincare reels?
Transformation teases are the most common. Curiosity gaps and POV hooks went about as far as each other, and further than the rest.
A skincare curiosity gap can be as plain as "Serum cheat sheet for beginners", and the middle one reached 24 times followers. POV hooks reached 23, from only 4% of these reels. The surprise is relatable lines. They open 11% of these reels, yet the middle one reached only 10 times, the lowest of any type. Here, a joke about the routine travelled less far than a reason to watch it. And 23% have no real hook, with the middle one of those at 16.

How long should a skincare hook be?
Under 13 words. The middle hook is 8, and the longer ones travelled much less far.
Every band up to 12 words reached 17 to 21 times its creator's followers for the middle hook, with 9–12 words on top. Past that, it fell to 7 and 8. A skincare hook can name the step and the product, and still stop there.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. 65% of viral skincare reels put the hook on screen as text alone, and those travelled furthest.
The middle text-only hook reached 21 times followers. The 18% that both say and show the line reached 10, and spoken hooks alone 12. Mid-routine, with a mask on or a serum going on, a line of text is easier than talking.
How do viral skincare hooks start?
"My" and "I" lead, on 18 and 17 of 387 English hooks, with "POV" right behind on 16. "Skincare" and "step" both make the top eight, which says a lot about what this niche sells: order.

We looked at every skincare reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 1,065 reels from 889 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's skincare niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 387 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
