Christian hooks run from church jokes to quiet prayers. We sorted the first lines of all 2,084 viral Christian reels in Aubrium's library, from 1,692 creators, by kind and by how far each went. Curiosity gaps and relatable lines are the most common hooks on viral Christian reels, at 17% each. POV hooks are less common, at 6% of these reels, yet their middle reel reached 43 times the creator's followers, ahead of every other type. 71% of these reels show the hook as text on screen, and the typical hook runs 11 words.

What kind of hook works best for Christian reels?
Curiosity gaps and relatable lines tie for the lead, at 17% each, with bold claims next at 14%.
Relatable lines went much further than curiosity gaps, 24 times their creator's followers against 16. POV hooks went furthest of all, at 43×, and aspirational lines reached 30×, from 80 reels. Only 13% of viral Christian reels have no hook of any type.

How long should a Christian hook be?
Fairly short. Hooks of 8 words or fewer went a little further than long ones, though the typical hook is 11 words.
Hooks of 5 to 8 words reached 19 times their creator's followers, and past 20 words the middle reel reached 13. The gap isn't huge. A church joke like "When the pastor says the sermon will be short..." needs its setup, and that's fine.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. More than half, 54%, write the hook and don't say it; 21% say it out loud, and 17% do both.
Written hooks went furthest, with a middle reel at 22×. Spoken hooks reached 13×, and so did hooks both written and said. Even a reel built on a sermon can open on one written line.

How we did this
We looked at every Christian reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 2,084 reels from 1,692 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's Christian niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 1,260 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
