Here's three things I learned while being at psychic school.
How long should a tarot hook be?
Shorter than most tarot hooks. The middle one runs 13 words, and only 27% use 8 or fewer, but the short ones went further.
Hooks of 1 to 4 words, just 16 of them, reached 15×. From 13 words up, the middle reel reached 7×. A pick-a-card hook only has to say one thing: pick.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. 44% put the hook on screen without saying it; 28% say it and 26% do both.
The gap is wide. Written-only hooks reached 19× for the middle reel. Spoken hooks, and hooks both written and spoken, reached 7× each. 50% of tarot reels are a reader talking to camera, so the written line is the one that stands apart.
How do viral tarot hooks start?
Tarot hooks start with "someone" more than any other word, 28 times; "if" opens 21 and "you" 15. "Think" opens 11, the pick-a-card opener behind "Think of someone and choose one."

How we did this
We looked at every tarot reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 816 reels from 601 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's tarot niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 442 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
