Someone with 3,048 followers typed a question across their reel: "What does he do when he smells gluten?" The reel drew 7.6 million views. You only find out by watching the dog.
35% of viral dog training reels are tutorials: a dog learning something on camera. We collected the first line of each of the 964 in Aubrium's library, from 756 creators, to see how trainers open. Curiosity gaps open 26% of viral dog training reels, more than any other kind, but relatable lines went furthest, their middle reel at 31× its follower count. Questions come second, at 12%. 74% show the hook as text, and the middle hook is 10 words. Shorter hooks went further.

What kind of hook works best for dog training reels?
Curiosity gaps, by a distance: 26% of these reels open on one. Questions (12%) and bold claims (11%) follow.
Being common isn't the same as going far. A typical curiosity gap drew 19 times its account's followers. Relatable lines, on only 9% of these reels, reached 31. Transformation teases and warnings both reached 27. 11% of these reels have no real hook.

40% of these hooks are 8 words or fewer. Hooks of 5–8 and 9–12 words went about as far, 25× and 23×. At 13–20 words the middle reel was at 16×, and past 20 words, 13×.

We looked at every dog training reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 964 reels from 756 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's dog training niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 620 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
