How long should a construction hook be?
Around 5 to 8 words. Hooks that length travelled furthest by a distance, though the middle hook runs 11.
The 5 to 8 word band reached 41 times its creator's followers for the middle reel. Every other length sat between 13 and 23, and the longest hooks, past 20 words, were lowest at 13. Only 32% of these hooks are 8 words or fewer. A build is easier to show than to describe.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. Text alone is how 36% of these reels open, more than any other way.
Text alone also travelled furthest, 39 times the creator's followers for the middle reel. Text and voice together reached 18, and a spoken hook alone 12. On a loud site, a written line still reads with the sound off.

How we did this
We looked at every construction reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 764 reels from 656 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's construction niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 343 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
