Very short did best, though a full sentence held up well too. The middle hook is 11 words.
Hooks of 1 to 4 words reached 56 times their creator's followers in the middle, and 13 to 20 words reached 47. The bands in between, 5 to 8 and 9 to 12 words, sat at 27 and 29. Past 20 words it fell to 18. Only 8% of these hooks are that short, so a two- or three-word line stands out here.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. Text on screen alone is the most common way to deliver a hook, at 29%, and spoken hooks come next at 22%.
The gap in reach is huge. The middle reel with its hook as text alone reached 98 times the creator's followers. A spoken hook reached 31, and one both written and said only 19. 67% of these reels run on their own sound, so plenty of plumbers talk; on these numbers, the reels with the line written on screen went furthest.

Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 301 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
