How long should an HVAC hook be?
Length shows only small gaps. The middle hook runs 11 words, and hooks of every length up to 20 words travelled about as far, 12 to 16 times followers.
Hooks of 1 to 4 words reached 16 times followers, 5 to 8 words 15, 13 to 20 words 14 and 9 to 12 words 12. Past 20 words it was 10. So the line can run as long as the joke needs, short of a paragraph.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. On 35% of viral HVAC reels the hook is text alone, and on 28% it's written and spoken.
Text alone travelled furthest, 26 times the creator's followers for the middle reel. A spoken hook reached 14, and saying and writing it at once only 11. That's worth knowing in a niche where 68% of reels use their own sound: the talking can come after the line on screen.
How do viral HVAC hooks start?
"POV" opens 29 hooks, more than any other word. Next, level at 18, come "this" and the name of the trade itself, "HVAC".

How we did this
We looked at every HVAC reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 709 reels from 446 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's HVAC niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
