How long should a teacher hook be?
Under a dozen words. The middle teacher hook is 11, and 36% use 8 or fewer.
Hooks of 5–8 and 9–12 words travelled about as far, 19 and 18 times their creator's followers for the middle reel. Below that, four words or fewer reached 16. Past 12 words the multiple slides to 15 and then 13. A teacher hook has to name the situation, and very short lines rarely can.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. 51% of viral teacher reels put the hook on screen as text alone, and those travelled furthest.
The middle text-only reel reached 25 times its creator's followers. Said-and-shown hooks are common here, 30% of reels, but travelled only 12, and spoken-only hooks 11. If you're talking to camera, try putting a different line on screen from the one you say.
How do viral teacher hooks start?
"POV" leads with 53, then "when" with 42, and "I" and "the" with 36 each. "Teachers" opens 25, and "okay", the word you say to a room before you start, opens 16.

How we did this
We looked at every teacher reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 1,697 reels from 1,395 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's teacher niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 908 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
