The best hooks for men's style reels, from 752 that went viral
We read the opening line of every viral men's style reel in Aubrium's library: which hooks show up most, which travelled furthest, and 16 real ones to learn from.

"Don't do this mistake if you are a skinny guy ❌". It came from an account with 1,474 followers and pulled 2.6 million views. In one breath it names who it's for and tells them they're getting something wrong.
Men's style is a niche of rules: what to tuck, what to stop buying, which colours go together. We took the opening line of each of the 752 viral men's style reels in Aubrium's library, from 491 creators, and counted how often each hook type appears and how far it went. The cross-niche rules are in our Instagram reel hooks guide, and what goes viral in each niche we covered has the rest.
On viral men's style reels, a curiosity gap opens 20% and a bold claim 15%. Warnings, on 8% of reels, carried furthest of the common types, with a typical reach of 22 times the account's followers. 73% put the hook on screen, often while saying it too, and the median hook runs 10 words.

What kind of hook works best for men's style reels?
Curiosity gaps lead, on 20% of reels, and bold claims follow at 15%. After that the field flattens: questions, transformation teases, warnings and number lists all sit at 8% or 9%.
Warnings are where the distance is. A typical warning reached 22 times followers, well clear of every type but one: the 7 aspirational lines, at 24. A men's style warning is a rule with a stop sign on it: stop buying random jeans, or if you have big thighs, stop buying baggy jeans. Bold claims are the mirror image, second in number but among the lowest in distance, at 8 times. The 12% of reels that open with no real hook reached 20 times.

How long should a men's style hook be?
Shorter than most men's style creators write. The median is 10 words, but the four-word-or-less group outran every other length.
Only 9% of these hooks are that short, and their typical reel reached 22 times followers. Five to eight words reached 12. From 9 words up, every band sat at 8 or 9 times. Most hooks here run past 8 words, often spelling out the whole rule. If yours does, try leading with the problem and saving the rule for the reel.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Either one on its own. 42% of viral men's style reels say the hook and show it together, the most common way here, but that pairing went least far.
Spoken-only hooks had a typical reach of 16 times followers and text-only ones 14, about the same. Doing both reached 11. In a niche where 55% of reels have someone talking to camera, a spoken opening comes naturally.
How do viral men's style hooks start?
"If" starts the most hooks, then "how". Look further down and the niche's habit shows: "don't" and "remember" open 11 hooks each, and "stop" opens 9.

How we did this
We looked at every men's style reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 752 reels from 491 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's men's style niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 412 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
