The best hooks for sneaker reels, from 879 that went viral
We read the opening line of every viral sneaker reel in Aubrium's library: which hooks show up most, which travelled furthest, and 16 real ones to learn from.

One short question sat on screen: "Can you tell the difference?" Posted to 10,725 followers, the reel reached 40.3 million views, and it never needed to say which shoes it meant.
Despite the name, this niche is wider than sneakers. Heels, boots, loafers and flats all turn up in its 879 viral reels, posted by 726 creators. We went through their opening lines to find which kinds of hook repeat and which ones carried a reel past its own audience. For the rules that hold in every niche, read the hooks that work across Instagram. For the other niches, see what goes viral in each niche.
Curiosity gaps, relatable lines and bold claims are the most common hooks on viral sneaker reels. Callouts reached 21 times the account's followers, ahead of the other big types. Aspirational lines went further, 50, but there are only 23 of them. 66% put the hook on screen as text, and the middle hook has 8 words.

What kind of hook works best for sneaker reels?
Curiosity gaps come first, at 13%, with relatable lines and bold claims right behind. No single type owns this niche.
Callouts are the one to watch. Only 8% use one, yet the middle callout reel reached 21 times its account's size, ahead of every other type on 5% or more of reels. Two rare types went further: 23 aspirational lines with a middle of 50×, and 17 POV hooks at 30×. Number lists sat at the bottom, at 7 times. Then there are the 30% with no hook of any type. The middle one of those still reached 22 times its followers.

One reel per creator, the most-viewed one with an English hook. We chose these by hand so most of the types above get a turn, and so the heels and boots sit next to the sneakers, as they do in the niche itself.

How long should a sneaker hook be?
About 8 words is the middle, and the 5–8 word band travelled furthest, at 22 times followers.
It isn't a straight line, though. The tightest hooks, 1–4 words, reached 13 times, and the 13–20 word band dipped to 7. 53% of these hooks land at 8 words or fewer.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Put it on screen. 66% of viral sneaker reels show the hook as text, on its own or with a voice.
Text alone did best: the middle reel travelled 20 times its followers. Text with a voice reading it reached 13, level with a hook that's only spoken. For a niche where the product is the picture, a caption over the shoe does the talking.
How do viral sneaker hooks start?
"My" comes first: it opens 25 of the 334 English hooks, ahead of "the" and "I". That's the collection reel at work, as in "my vans collection": a creator walking through their own shoes, and saying so in the first word.

Should a sneaker hook be text or spoken?
Text. 66% show it on screen. The middle text-only reel hit 20 times its followers; spoken hooks, 13.
How big are the accounts behind viral sneaker reels?
The middle viral sneaker reel came from an account with 13,970 followers, and 39% came from accounts under 10,000 followers.
How we did this
We looked at every sneaker reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 879 reels from 726 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's sneaker niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 334 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
