The best hooks for cycling reels, from 1,144 that went viral
We read the opening line of every viral cycling reel in Aubrium's library: which hooks show up most, which travelled furthest, and 16 real ones to learn from.

"POV: you didn't buy a Canyon" doesn't explain itself, and it doesn't need to. Riders get it. On an account with 3,828 followers, it pulled 5 million views.
Small accounts make up half the field here. The middle viral cycling reel in Aubrium's library comes from an account with 9,938 followers, and 50% came from accounts under 10,000 followers. We went line by line through all 1,144, from 922 road riders, mountain bikers and triathletes. For every niche at once, there's our guide to Instagram hooks. For the rest, see every niche we looked at.
On viral cycling reels, the hook you'll see most is a relatable line, on 16%, ahead of questions and curiosity gaps. Two rare types went further: negative hooks reached 30 times the account's followers and POV hooks 29, each on 3% of reels or fewer. 75% put the hook in text, and 1–4 word hooks beat every other length.

Why Low Cadence Workouts do NOT Increase Strength 👇
How long should a cycling hook be?
Shorter travelled further. With a 1–4 word hook, the middle reel reached 27 times followers, the best of any length.
Past 20 words, the middle reel managed 11. The 9–12 word band did well too, at 24. 48% stop at 8 words or fewer, and the middle hook has 9.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. 75% put the hook on screen, and text with no voice did far better than anything else.
The middle reel with text alone reached 23 times its followers. Spoken alone, 14. Both together, 9. A line of text over the footage reads at any speed, which suits a niche filmed on the move.

"I" and "POV" lead: "I" opens 24 of the 526 English hooks and "POV" 19, with "how" and "the" on 17 each. The word "cycling" itself opens 9.

How we did this
We looked at every cycling reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 1,144 reels from 922 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's cycling niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 526 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
