What kind of yoga reels go viral?
Tutorials, and it isn't close: 56% of viral yoga reels show you how to do something. Montages are a distant second, at 10%.
Stories are where the reach is. Only 65 of these reels tell a story, 5%, but the middle one reached 32 times its creator's followers, against 16 for a tutorial. Skits, lists and slideshows, all small groups, also beat the tutorial on that measure. Talking heads, at 3%, reached just 8.
Do you need to show your face?
No, though most yoga creators do. 81% of these reels show a face, which makes sense when the body is the lesson, and only 5% show no one at all. The 19% that keep the face out of frame travelled a little further: 19 times followers for the middle one, against 16 with a face.
Should yoga reels have text on screen?
Yes, and usually just a line. 68% carry a little text and 19% a lot. Here the heavier text travelled furthest, 19 times followers for the middle reel, while light text and no text sat about level, at 16 and 15. A pose name, a count, a cue: yoga gives a reel plenty to write.
Trending song or your own sound?
A song, most of the time. 62% of viral yoga reels use one from Instagram's music library, against 37% across all of Aubrium's library. Their own sound is on 30%. The few that borrowed another creator's sound, 6%, travelled furthest, at 20 times followers.
What hooks work for yoga reels?
Curiosity gaps lead by a long way, at 28%, and 20% of these reels have no real hook. The middle hook is 9 words long. POV hooks are only 2% but travelled furthest, at 35 times followers. Six real ones, from accounts of different sizes:

How we did this
We looked at every yoga reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 1,421 reels from 1,115 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's yoga niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Format, faces, text, sound and hooks are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
