We read the opening line of all 1,602 viral couples reels in Aubrium's library, from 1,313 creators, and sorted them by kind and by how far each kind travelled. The best hooks for Instagram reels collects what works in every niche, and which niches go viral on Instagram lists every niche we looked at.
Relatable lines lead viral couples reels by a wide margin: 39% open on one. The middle one travelled 64 times its creator's followers, level with transformation teases at 62. POV hooks come next by count, at 11%. 85% show the hook as text on screen, and the middle hook is 9 words.

What kind of hook works best for couples reels?
Relatable ones, the "that's us" lines. They're the most common, at 39%, and among the bigger groups none travelled further.
The middle relatable reel reached 64 times its creator's followers. POV hooks reached 51 and curiosity gaps 36. Two smaller groups came close to the top: transformation teases at 62 and aspirational lines at 58, though they're only 4% and 6% of the reels. Many relatable hooks are about small things in a shared life, like "When my wife tells me to do the hotel booking for the trip 😤". And 11% have no hook of any type; their middle one reached 57 times.

Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 802 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
