We read the opening line of every viral cruise reel in Aubrium's library: which hooks show up most, which travelled furthest, and 16 real ones to learn from.
"Why I would never book a Boardwalk view balcony cabin on Royal Caribbean". A cabin type, a cruise line and a verdict, all in one line on screen. It came from an account with 20,408 followers and reached 25.4 million views.
Cruise reels are full of advice like that: cabins, fees, embarkation day, what to pack. Aubrium's library has 559 viral cruise reels from 383 creators, and we read the first line of each one. On viral cruise reels the curiosity gap is the top hook, at 26%, ahead of questions and bold claims, and all three reached 13× followers. POV hooks reached 40×, but only 24 reels use one; relatable lines, on 10% of reels, reached 24×. 84% show the hook in on-screen text, and the middle hook is 12 words.

What kind of hook works best for cruise reels?
Curiosity gaps, at 26%. Questions (13%) and bold claims (11%) follow, and all three travelled the same distance: 13 times their creator's followers for the middle one.
Relatable lines broke from the pack. 57 reels use one, and the middle one reached 24 times. They're the jokes every cruiser knows, like being told an inside cabin is "just as good". POV hooks top the chart at 40 times, but only 24 reels use one.
Only 10% of cruise reels have no hook of any type, and they reached just 8× for the middle reel.

How long should a cruise hook be?
On the long side. The middle hook is 12 words, and only 24% of the 301 English hooks are 8 words or fewer.
No length clearly won. The very short ones did least well: just 12 hooks of 1–4 words, and the middle one reached 6 times its creator's followers. 5–8 words reached 16, and everything longer sat between 11 and 14. Cruise hooks tend to name a cabin, a line or a fee, and that takes words.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. Half of these reels use text alone, 50%, and another 34% pair the text with a voice.
Text alone travelled furthest, 17 times followers for the middle reel. Saying it while showing it reached 11, and speaking it alone 10. The written line works whether the sound is on or not.
How do viral cruise hooks start?
"POV" and "the" tie for the first word, each opening 14 of the 301 English hooks, with "here's" and "I" just behind. "Here's" is the sound of a tip on its way.

We looked at every cruise reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 559 reels from 383 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's cruise niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 301 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
