We read the opening line of every viral hotel review reel in Aubrium's library: which hooks show up most, which travelled furthest, and 16 real ones to learn from.

Anyone who has stayed in a hotel knows the blanket. One reel's hook named it: "When you see that one decorative blanket/pillow on your hotel bed". It went up from a 19,082-follower account and reached 19.9 million views.
Hotel review is mostly tours, room by room, and the hook is what gets someone through the door. Aubrium's library has 864 viral hotel review reels from 785 creators, and we went through the opening line of every one. It belongs to the hooks guide that covers every niche, and our overview of every niche we looked at has the rest.
On viral hotel review reels, the curiosity gap is the most used hook (22%), then the bold claim and the question. Curiosity gaps, aspirational and relatable lines all reached 18× to 19× followers for the middle reel, while questions lagged at 8×. 79% show the hook on screen, and 5–8 words was the length that went furthest.

Sometimes the hotel is the vacation
How long should a hotel review hook be?
Medium. Hooks of 5–8 words travelled furthest, and both very short and long ones fell behind.
The middle 5–8 word hook reached 22 times its creator's followers. Below that, 1–4 words reached 11; above it, 13 for 9–12 words, 9 for 13–20 and 11 past 20 words. The middle hook is 11 words, so most creators write longer than the length that went furthest. A hook like "Sometimes the hotel is the vacation" stays inside it.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. 52% of these reels show the hook as text with no voice, and 27% say it too.
Text alone travelled 18 times followers for the middle reel. A voice alone, and hooks that were both said and shown, reached 10 each. Talk through the room if you like, but write the first line.
