How long should a travel tips hook be?
Keep it to 12 words or fewer if you can.
Up to 12 words, the bands sit close together. Hooks of 1 to 4, 5 to 8 and 9 to 12 words got 23 to 25 times the creator's following on the middle reel. Past 12 words it slips to 19, both for 13 to 20 words and for 21 or more words. The longer hooks are common, though. 13 to 20 words is the biggest band, at 29%. Only 28% stay at 8 words or fewer.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. Let the words on screen carry the tip.
57% of viral travel tips reels show the hook as text and nothing else, and the middle one of those reached 40 times its creator's followers. Reels that also spoke the line aloud reached 16. Spoken alone, it was 16 too. A tip on screen can be read before the voice gets going.
