How long should a pop culture hook be?
About 10 words. Up to 12 travelled about as far, and past that the multiple drops.
Hooks of 1–4 words reached 46 times their creator's followers for the middle reel, 5–8 words 41, and 9–12 words 45, so a full sentence travelled about as far as a short one. After 12 words it falls: 32 for 13–20 words, 23 past 20. Name the person and the moment, then stop.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. Text on screen went much further than a spoken hook.
55% open with text on screen alone, and the middle one reached 45 times its creator's followers. A voice alone, on 20%, reached 17, and both together 32. Interview clips make up 14% of these reels, with the star doing the talking. The text tells you why to stay before they've said a word.
