We read all 753 viral toddler reels in Aubrium's library, from 592 creators, to see how they open. What kind of hook works best for toddler reels?
Relatable lines, on both counts. They open 127 of the 753 reels and travelled furthest.
They're toddler-sized jokes: a helper who ends in chaos, magnetic tiles turned into accessories, toddlers being toddlers for no reason at all. Their middle reel drew 29× followers. Callouts and bold claims came next at 26× and 25×. Curiosity gaps, the second most common type, reached only 17×. And 23% skip the hook. Their middle reel reached 55×, more than any hook type.

How long should a toddler hook be?
Short ones went a bit further. 50% of toddler hooks run 8 words or fewer, with 9 as the middle.
The 1–4 word band tops the chart at 27× followers for the middle reel. The 5–8 and 9–12 word bands reached 20× and 17×. Past 20 words there are only 20 hooks, and their middle reel reached 15×. "His first snow. 🥹" is about all a toddler hook needs to say.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Here, say it. Spoken hooks are rarer, 13% of reels, but they travelled furthest.
The middle reel with a spoken hook reached 34 times its creator's followers, against 23 for text on screen alone and 14 for text with a voice. Two of the spoken ones in our list: "Ready? Let's go." and "Can you give me a thumbs up?" Text is still the norm, at 67% of reels.

We looked at every toddler reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 753 reels from 592 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's toddler niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 341 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
