The hook you'll see most on viral home decor reels is the transformation tease, at 21%, ahead of curiosity gaps at 13%. POV hooks are rarer, at 4%, but the middle one travelled furthest, to 31 times its creator's followers. 67% show the hook as text, the middle hook is 8 words, and 24% have no real hook.

What kind of hook works best for home decor reels?
Transformation teases, at 21%. They give you a hint of the after before you've seen the before.
The type that went furthest is a smaller one. POV hooks make up 4% of these reels, and the middle one reached 31 times its creator's followers. Warnings, rarer still at 2%, came close at 27. Transformation teases held up well for a type that common, at 26, while bold claims sat near the bottom at 14. And 24% of viral home decor reels have no real hook; the room does the opening.

Short. The middle hook runs 8 words, and 54% of the English hooks we read stop there or sooner.
Hooks of 1 to 4 words travelled 21 times followers, and 5 to 8 words reached 20. After that the numbers fall away: 15 for 9 to 12 words, 14 for 13 to 20. In a decor reel the room does the explaining, so the line only has to get you to the reveal.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Show it. 57% put the hook on screen as text alone. Only 10% speak it, and 9% do both.
Text alone also travelled furthest, 20 times the creator's followers for the middle reel, against 13 for a spoken hook and 14 for both. With 69% of these reels never showing a face, there often isn't anyone on camera to say the line anyway.

We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's home decor niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 909 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
