Curiosity gaps alone open 22% of viral piano reels, but the hooks that went furthest are something else. We read the opening lines of 1,113 viral piano reels in Aubrium's library, from 745 creators, to find out what. On viral piano reels, the hook worth studying is the relatable line: 12% of reels, and its middle one went 17 times the creator's following, furthest of the common types. Curiosity gaps are more common (22%) and reached 9. 34% have no real hook and matched the relatable lines. 72% open with words on screen.

What kind of hook works best for piano reels?
Relatable lines: the practice-room jokes, the neighbours, the boredom. 12% of viral piano reels use one, and their middle reel reached 17 times the creator's following.
Curiosity gaps, questions, bold claims and callouts all reached 9, short of the 12 that the niche's middle reel managed. Then there's the odd one: the 34% with no real hook reached 17, level with the best type. A piano can open a reel by itself, and plenty of these do.

How long should a piano hook be?
Either very short or quite long. The middle hook is 9 words, but the two ends did best.
At both ends, 4 words or fewer and past 20 words, the middle reel reached 12 times its account's followers. The middle lengths sat lower, down to 6 for 13 to 20 words. Say it in a breath or tell the whole story; the in-between is where reach thinned out.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Either way. Text alone, on 57% of the reels, and a voice alone, on 8%, both reached 13 times the creator's following for the middle reel.
Saying it while showing it, on 15%, went least far, at 8. Text is still the norm on viral piano reels.

We looked at every piano reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 1,113 reels from 745 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's piano niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 363 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
