The best hooks for singing reels, from 966 that went viral
We read the opening line of every viral singing reel in Aubrium's library: which hooks show up most, which travelled furthest, and 16 real ones to learn from.

"Find out your vocal range." That was the whole hook, shown on screen and said out loud, on a reel from an account with 3,148 followers. It got 3.9 million views.
It sets the viewer a small task. We wanted to see what else works, so we read the hooks on all 966 viral singing reels in Aubrium's library, from 766 creators. Singing is a voice-first niche: 95% of these reels show a face and 90% use the singer's own sound, so the hook shares the screen with someone about to sing. This page sits under the hooks that work in every niche, and what goes viral in each niche we looked at covers the rest.
On viral singing reels, curiosity gaps lead at 22% of reels, then relatable lines and questions. Among the bigger types, none pulled clearly ahead: relatable lines reached 14× their creator's followers for the middle one, transformation teases 13×. 78% put the hook on screen as text, the middle hook runs 9 words, and 29% have no real hook.

What kind of hook works best for singing reels?
Curiosity gaps are the most common, opening 208 of the 966 reels, but none of the bigger types clearly went furthest.
The gap hooks in the list mix quick tricks, like "Find out your vocal range.", with moments, like a bird singing an aria over breakfast. Relatable lines reached 14× their creator's followers for the middle reel and transformation teases 13×, against 11× for a curiosity gap. Negative hooks reached 19×, but there are only 12 of them. Relatable lines are the small, true jokes of a singer's life, like hitting a note by accident while messing about. And 29% of these reels have no real hook. Their middle reel reached 13×, close to the niche's overall 12×.

ONE DAY OF SINGING!
How long should a singing hook be?
About 9 words is the middle, and no length clearly won here.
The 5–8 word band is the biggest, with 162 hooks, and its middle reel reached 10 times its creator's followers. The shortest hooks, 1–4 words, reached 17 times, but there are only 48 of them. Hooks of 21 words or more did as well as the 9–12 word ones. So write the line your reel needs, at whatever length it takes to say it clearly.
Should you say the hook or show it?
Either works, and lots of singers do both: 78% show the hook as text, and 30% say it out loud as well.
With text alone or a spoken hook alone, the middle reel landed at 13× its creator's followers. Doing both at once came out a little lower, at 10×. Only 11% speak the hook with no text, which is odd for a niche built on the voice. Our guess: singers save the voice for the song and let the words sit on screen.
How do viral singing hooks start?
Singing hooks start with "POV" more than anything, 28 times, with "I" and "this" tied behind at 20 each. Further down sits "singers", 8 times, from hooks that call their own crowd by name.

How we did this
We looked at every singing reel in Aubrium's library on 22 October 2026: 966 reels from 766 creators with 1,000 to 100,000 followers, each of which reached at least twice its creator's follower count and at least 10,000 views. We counted every reel filed in Aubrium's singing niche; a reel can sit in more than one niche.
Hook types, delivery and on-screen text are labels Aubrium's reader puts on every post. Hook length and first words count the 463 reels with an English hook in words. Every number here describes reels that already went viral, so none of it is the odds for a new one.
